    Similar to mkaibear's post,

If I come home from London way I always use this route

it's 20 miles longer and 45 mins longer, but I'm the sort who doesn't care about +45 mins it saves a bit of money, but more to the point I'm not contributing to the coffers of the bridge company. I know the route 'by heart' and don't need a map, and the cirencester road has been improved hugely, parts of it are almost a motorway now.

It's my belief that the government should have built bridge No.2 and either made it free or leased it out to compete with bridge no.1 so there would be some competition introduced into the bridges, to keep prices down.

I wouldn't bother wasting forty five minutes to save a pound or two. The amount of saving, less the cost of petrol and mileage, would be no more than two pounds and more likely to quite a bit less.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

As I said, it's not all about saving money, I do save money, a couple of quid, and my time has no value, 45 mins extra time listening to the radio and travelling through more interactive/accessible scenery than you get on a motorway is not an issue for me. I also get the satisfaction of not paying the bridge company.

It may not be something you would do, that's fine, but if it saves me money, and I enjoy driving the route I don't see the problem.

Another one of my favourite routes is this one instead of going M4, M25, M11 You go through some fantastic villages in the cotswolds, and past Rousham House, much better than motorways.

Unfortunately all that is cancelled out by the fact that you also go through Milton Keynes. :p
