I am not sure if I have put this on the right section, please move in need to:). My son is visiting swansea uni soon and my sister is taking him by car. They will be traveling over the severn bridge and she is wondering do you pay to cross into wales and then to cross over back into england or is it just one way and if so does anyone know which way? Many thanks

Hi
You pay going into Wales (£5.30 I think) and then it is free coming back into England.
I hope this helps

May NSD 13/15
May PAD £2380 -
One way, on the way in (cos the Welsh would never pay to get into England!), and its cash only (or was until recently) so don't expect to pay by card. (A friend of mine pitched up at the toll booths a few years back with only his credit card and was escorted round under the motorway onto the other carriageway and sent back to Bristol to get some cash!).
(To clarify on the new bridge (M4) the toll booths are on the Welsh side, and on the old bridge they are on the English side but on both bridges you only pay to get into Wales)Adventure before Dementia!0 -
The toll is currently £5.70. You pay it westbound only, ie travelling to Wales from England costs money, while coming back is free.0

When I saw the title of this thread, I had visions of giant mythical creatures, terrorising motorists as they entered or left Wales.

How many trolls under Severn Bridge? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
thank you all so much. I had to look to see if i had put trollPaul Walker , in my dreams;)0

And there are huge 50mph signs and camera warning signs everywhere as you approach the toll booths. They aren't there for show.0

You pay for going in each time, but you can come back as many times as you like for free
not wishing to be a kill joy, we all like a bit of banter, but isn't this sort of question handled much more quickly by just putting "severn bridge toll" into any search engine. even less typing for OP0 -

Can I ask where they're coming from? If you're north of Gloucester then it's worth just going down the M50/A40/A449 rather than across the bridge. Sat Navs say the bridge is faster but the difference is about 2 minutes and you don't have to pay.
If you're coming from London-way, going via the M50 and down the M5 to the M4 adds about 50 minutes and 42 miles - which is worth it if you are paying less than 13.5p per mile (which you almost certainly aren't).0 -
Although its true you won't get help like the above from a search engine
a bit of bridge related banter0 -
I believe it is also free if you are a blue badge holder.0
