Nokia and Microsoft together who would hav thought.
Well talk about fall from grace, apparently nokia and Microsoft have been forced to seek the help of each to try and tackle the rise and rise of android and apple. http://www.google.com/m/url?ei=sgZVTbirI4Sv8wOUidSaAQ&q=http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/11/nokia-and-microsoft-enter-strategic-alliance-on-windows-phone-b/&ved=0CB4QFjAD&usg=AFQjCNHaWU7Vi66rpqLNeqSJjdYExZ6uLQ
More reason for anyone with technical know how to stay away from windows and Microsoft phones cause i thought they were better than this but imagine they are now stooping so low as to comfort each other. By the time this alliance takes shape android and apple will be even further.

About time too! Nokia had to do something. Symbian has had it's day and is sadly creaking at the seams like and old sideboard full of dry rot. Although they should seriously look at Android as well as Windows Mobile if they want to come back into anything like the smartphone .

I don't really see this as being anything other than a prop up for Nokia. Windows Phone is coming along nicely and, as a user of WP7, for a new OS, it's very impressive.
As for critics of this move. Do you want a future smartphone market where you only have two choices?0 -

Nokia was a brand name till now. once Nokia adopt WP7, Nokia will just be another manufacturer who manufactures the WP7 devices along side of HTC, Samsung etc.,
Moreover, WP7 is more or less completely smart phone softwares. Nokia's share in smart phones is not great. Hardware wise, HTC and Samsung producing great phones with 1Ghz processor, Super AMOLED phones etc., Nokia's yet fastest processor of their flagship (N8) phone is 600MHz only. Nokia have to outperform themselves when they design a new device for WP7 to be able to compete their device with HTC and Samsung's.
Nokia still has a long bumpy road ahead towards recovery.0 -
Are they merging? Does this mean we can expect more smartphones from Nokia?0

This smells of desperation a little bit. Here are 2 huge companies that are losing market share in the mobile sector, trying to take on the leaders. I don't think we'll see any hadsets from them this year and it will be 3-5 years before we see anything that could rival Apple and Android0

Of all possible mergers in the world this has been the most shocking for me how on earth did they agree to this it doesn't
make the slightest sense at all especially now that apple is also going to start delving into low end smart phones ad well and if true this will certainly spell the end for nokia and windows.0 -
o2 seem rather excited about it.0
