HELP! Defragging problem

I've been burning some dvd's recently and have noticed that since I've been doing this, whenever I defrag, it only defrags up to 26% and then it stops and says it cannot go any further.

Does anyone know what I can do to correct this please?

One day I'll click quote instead of thanks..

anyhow, try running "error checking" on the drive and see if it comes up with anything.

Right click on drive -> Properties -> Tools -> check Now.

...and alsp check there is plenty of free space on the drive.
  • Yes, lack of disk space would be my guess, caused by the DVD burner creating large temporary files.

    Try running CCleaner.

Agree wth Chippy but the biggest culprit of this problem is another program running in the background.
Before doing a defrag,do a disk clean-up or use, as suggested Crap Cleaner.
Then close down EVERY program thats running including anti virus and firewall and then proceed to defrag.

If it still won't run, defrag in Safe Mode.
