Not Really Sure What To Call This Post

  • I'm so, so sorry for your loss. Please don't be too hard on yourself as anger is natural reaction to your situation.

I have lost an ex-partner & my father to suicide (many years apart) & many years on I still feel angry with my ex-partner & myself but it honestly does get easier to deal with over time. You won't be able to see that far ahead just now, but I promise you it does stop being so overwhelming & all-consuming.

I second the advice about giving yourself some time to deal with it yourself before explaining it all to your daughter. Maybe give her some time to get used to the idea of him not being around before you explain how he actually died? But you know your daughter best, so go with your gut instinct. My kids were 2 & 5 so I didn't have to go into details for some years, & as my father was terminally ill it made it easier for them to understand why he did it.

I had the best support from the staff at the coroners' court. They had lots of information about support groups too, but I can't praise the staff highly enough (in Birmingham). I don't know if you or any of your family have had dealings with the coroner but you may find some comfort there as well as all the practical advice.

Thinking of you & your family.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D
