Rarely, if ever are these problems caused by a virus.
That's what I was thinking. People seem to think the slightest thing they see wrong with your machine is caused by a virus, when most viruses today are designed to be unseen.

It's not like Evil Russian Virus Schools are like this:

Teacher: "Right class; what are you all working on for your projects?"

Student 1: "I'm making a variant on the Zeus trojan which silent disables Trusteer, replacing the add in with one of it's own to give the illusion your banking page is protected, when in fact I'm stealing your credentials".

Student 2: "I've created a virus that lives in the MBR record and only runs in encrypted memory. No files are created on the hard drive once the OS is loaded to make it very difficult for AV to detect it".

Student 3: "Derrrr I done one wot swaps the letters around on the keyboard, randomly turns on CAPS LOCK, and every 15 minutes shows a photo of Justin Beeber being molested by a cat before saying 'Aahaha u got pwned. LOL!!!!!11' and shutting down".

Although it is always good to scan your machine for nasties :)

A bit harsh I feel!!! Agree that it may be the mouse at fault but as he also says it literally takes 20 mins or so to check the pc for infections, not much time out of your day is it? :)

My point is recommending actions without proper information can and does lead to disastrous consequences.
How long does it take to do what was suggested in the previous three sensible replies.
I repeat, malware and viruses rarely cause this type of problem.
The person, or persons, who suggests MWB and HJT is (are), I am sure quite proficient within their field but should refrain from dismissing all other, simpler remedies and from using bullying tactics on those who disagree. I have had this conversation before and frankly find it tedious.
If A..R.. needs to defend him/her/them self so vigorously I ask what is their problem?

:) Someone should make one of those "Everything is OK" alarms like in the Simsons that sounds every few seconds to show that everything is OK.

Ive known many viruses affect the mouse. I admit ive not seen one ina few years, but they certainly exist

And I dont see whats wrong with running a scan for 20 mins BEFORE spending a fiver on a new mouse

Hell, I dont see why ive been attacked like I have

What was said. " Hijack this gives unreliable results in Windows 7 64bit."
If you know this why do you not mention it?

    because I dont need to

I suppose the next comment will be from one of the "do a clean install" mob.

If the OP has a roller ball mouse (did anyone ask?) Hijack This and Malwarebytes won't remove fluff or dust.

Too many idiots with over inflated sense of self importance on here giving over the top advice and causing panic.

If its a rolller with fluff in then I seriously doubt it would automatically work when plugged into another usb. A dodgy wire/connection on the other hand does make sense

And why are you calling me an idiot? Nothing better to do?

But most people have access to a spare mouse from somewhere. So no need to spend a fiver or do a scan to start with.

Thats fair enough if the OP does. Im sure the OP can think of that awesome solution for themselves mind. Or are we supposed to write down every single action now?
