Are you sure you are going to get enough money back to make it worth your while?
A few years ago my car was written off so in August I sent the tax disc back to the DVLA with all the correct info. My cheque arrived back from the DVLA in October giving a refund for November onwards, in other words I lost 3 months tax whilst the disc went through their system.
You shouldn't have. Provided the letter was stamped prior to the end of the month, the rebate should be paid from that month, you were hadover;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Is there any reason why you cant buy a 6 month tax disc first and then send the other one back?0

Always have proof of postage and send a copy with a letter querying the amount.0 -

You can, but make sure you send a letter stating this that you are double taxed. If you don't you will receive a reject letter, stating you haven't told us why you want a refund - the new rules that came into force 1st January 2009, then you have to return it and wait even longer.0 -
what a pointless and hassle filled thing to even consider, your life must be empty if you have the time to fanny about doing all that for 5 months refund.
Just factor it into the price you sell the car for, and get a life, really.
Also, if the car gets sorn, and cannot be taxed again until a new buyer does so, then how are any potential new buyers going to be able to test drive the car on a public road with no tax ???
Bit harsh - I'd be doing it if my car was in the £425 tax band :rotfl:0 -

But you would be without a tax disc for some time.
What if you cancelled then changed your mind?? You'd have to retax it yourself then.
Another call to the DVLA is needed methinks;)
They did that as they need the 21 days time it takes to go through their system, when you could have two discs in force, and they'll try to sorn it on one and can't leave the other running.
Also, they used to get swamped with people cancelling in the month before the budget, then re-taxing again the next day for 12 months at the old rate.0 -

H'mm fair enough I supose considering the ineptitude of the dvla.
Would a private company get away with that??, answers on a post card;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Well the vehicle is either on the sysytem as taxed, or sorned. If you post the disc back on the end of the month, and buy a new one the next day, you have the new one before they've even opened the mail. So if you ask them to sorn it, and refund the tax they either have to cancel both, or can't do either. I can't see a private company being able to do it differently.0
