HTC 'Desire' or 'Wildfire'?

One think I really like about my current Nokia Navigator phone is that the maps are actually stored in the memory, so I can search for places/look at maps etc without actually having to be connected to the internet and down load maps each time (useful if no signal for example). Is it possible to actually store the maps on an Android phone/HTC Desire, or are maps only available 'online'?
Thanks!0 -
You could get yourself a third party navigation app, but with the built in Google Nav, there is no way to do that.

Do you know of any good android map apps that work offline?
Thinking about it, that is quite an important feature for me. Perhaps I should stick with a new Nokia afterall, so I can use their Ovi Maps offline. Oh dear - I thought I had it all sussed!!!!0 -
Co-Pilot, Aura and NDrive all offer this, but none are free.0

Hmmm perhaps I should go for the Nokia N8 - if I can blag it for free that is!
Are there any other makes that offer similar offline maps like the Nokia Ovi Maps??
Thanks.0 -
NavDroyd does it for Android too, it's not free but it's sub £50

Ah ha! That could be the answer then - had a quick look and looks ok. Perhaps it'll be a Desire after all!0

I've had the HTC desire for about 8 months now, never been a gadget girl ....but oh how I love this phone!
The quality of the screen is amazing, watch videos on youtube and its fab, not sure of the technical side but I think the good quality is due to the screen resolution, and the processor makes it super fast.0 -
Does anyone know if I can connect the HTC Desire to my home broadband provider WIFI network? My WIFI network is provided by Orange and I have a 'Livebox' that is protected with a WEP key.......
Thanks as always!0 -

Yes you should be able to do this easily. You can find the setup through Menu key -> Settings -> Wireless & Networks
You only need to set it up once with the WEP key and the phone will remember and try to connect automatically when it detects the network.0
