HTC 'Desire' or 'Wildfire'?

I've traditionally been a Nokia man, but this time I really like the sound of HTC phones. I think I've narrowed it down to either the 'Desire' or the 'Wildfire'.
Basically I use my mobile phone for:
* Calling & texting
* Internet browsing
* In-car Sat Nav
* email
* MP3 player
* FM radio
I don't use facebook/twitter or other 'social networking' sites.
Can anyone advice which phone might be better for me and why? Also, do you recommend any other phones I may have missed?
Thanks.

Desire is better for net browsing due to it's larger, higher res screen.
Everything thing else they should do identically. Perhaps the Desire will render the map faster during Sat Nav, but I suspect they'll both be bottlenecked by the speed of the data connection anyway.

I'm pretty sure that a recent Maps update means that maps are downloaded at the start of the journey, so rendering en-route should not be bottlenecked by the data connection speed.There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

I am a confused 44 yr old just looking at upgrading. I am on a Vodaphone stop the clock contract paying £20 a month. I always thought I wanted a Blackberry,but now android phones are possible, I think I want one of these. I just hope I can get to grips with the technology. I could easily take an 18 month contract, but feel I only want 12 months...this is not a popular decision as they all want you on 24 or 18 months. I am happy to pay for part of the phone to keep my monthly costs down and I could at a push afford £160 for a black wildfire with Argos as payg. Then I could choose the best contract. But I think the Desire would be the better investment. I like the idea of being able to view e books on the phone. How should I approach Vodaphone or do you think I can only afford the Wildfire? P.s I looked at the Samsung 8500 Wave and its lovely, but the aps were not good for the cost of the phone - very sad about that!!0

If you're on a budget, consider the Orange San Francisco, it's better and cheaper than the Wildfire, but not quite up there with the Desire. It can be unlocked for nothing for use on whatever plan you see fit.0

Thank you Rusty, but I have thought about the SF, but want a better camera. I am not that fussy, but want occasionally to use this function as well!!0

Fair enough, the same thing caused my brother to get a WF over the SF as well, he wanted a flash.
Still, he's quite happy with it, although is sometimes secretly jealous of his OH's SF (that he got her :rotfl:).0 -
I think the WF is a good phone too! I have been offered the Desire on an 18 month contract but told that 12 month contracts are too expensive the monthly costs are prohibitive. Or my other option is to go sim only. I dont know whether to speak to retentions or not.0
