Trying to cancel with Vodafone - help!

I phoned Vodafone six times this evening/tonight to try and cancel my mobile dongle contract and find out about options for a new smartphone. Every time I got through to the cancellations line it told me nobody was available, to go on the net and then promptly cut off my call.

So I tried instead to call to upgrade, I want a smartphone after all. I was then told I was still have three months to go on my contract and they wouldn't speak to me. This actually isn't true, I have had a rolling contract for ages which I have to give 1 months notice on and have had that for years. My handset is ancient and well out of contract. They also told me if I want to cancel my dongle I have to do it online.

Anyhow, I went onto the website to e-mail Vodafone to ask them to cancel the dongle and to send me a PAC code for my mobile and start notice on phone so I can take my questions to somewhere I can speak to a human about my phone options. Having entered all my details - twice - I keep getting the following message:

Error the page you are trying to access is not available. Please contact the administrator for more details.

So I can't change anything by phone because they won't talk to me and their website isn't available:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:. !!!!!! else can I do?

    another disgruntled vodafone customer.

what the hell vodafone is doing?

does not these many complaints on MSE ring any bells to vodafone? There are orange, tmobile, three, o2, virgin and other networks too. But why do voda has got these many complaints. the share of voda complaints here is at least 10 times greater than their share of consumers.

sorry OP, I am not hijacking the thread. But I really hate vodafone.

No worries narika. I just don't know what to do. My husband has got a Vodafone contract too and he has a great deal. They just won't speak to me, I can't e-mail them and I'm at a loss to understand why. All I want to do is cancel one deal (my ancient talk and text mobile and a separate dongle) and get a smart phone instead. I can't see why it's that hard! I'm just glad I don't have shares in them if they are treating all their customers like me. I didn't even want to get a pac code, but I can't be dealing with a company who won't even enter into dialogue as to what's the right contract for me.

Vodafone also has the most customers too.

Would be nice to see a %age of digruntled customers per network but that would be commercially sensative and no network will release it.

Remember also people generally only speak out if the have a bad time not if they get great service.

Cheers silk, I did wonder about the Egypt connection, but there has been trouble there for two weeks, plenty of time for a big international company to put alternatives in place. If this was the day after the Egypt trouble, or even a couple of days after, I'd understand. A couple of weeks, they could have subcontracted to third party call centres and got other websites up and running. If that is the case, it just shows a lack of contingency and risk planning at high level in Vodafone. Ultimately that's their problem, not mine.

You do realise you cannot contractually link a smartphone to a laptop without paying a surcharge each month for tethering.

In real life you can but if they find out (unlikey but possible if you use a lot of data) you'll get hit with an expensive per Mb bill for data.

I don't want to. You are making assumptions about my mobile usage which are wide of the mark. This is precisely why I wanted to talk to a human within Vodafone and make sure I got the right package. As it happens I want a Smartphone because its the way forward. I no longer need an internet dongle because the places I now take my laptop to outside the home have wireless hotspots which I can link to either free or for a lower charge.

Can you give me a link to this please gjchester? My understanding is that Vodafone is the third largest network in the UK, following the T-Mobile/Orange merger which put the joined company number 1 and O2 which is now second. I know Vodafone is the largest in the world, but MSE is a UK-focused forum and the complaints here would be about the UK would they not?

I have a valid complaint. I wouldn't even be on here asking about them if Vodafone would engage with me.

I'm off to work now and won't be home until late this evening.

If anyone has a solution, please post it, but please also excuse a lack of response from me. I'm genuinely interested in any ideas people have, but won't be able to read them until late today.
