I changed from 2 to 3 on Saturday having tried online but found out they had a technical problem when you inserted postcode. They gave me a dummy postcode to use but that did not work either so ended up doing it all on the phone. The only thing I need to find out now is where has the interest earned on Issue 2 this month disappeared to. Will phone later.

When you apply for this savings account by phone do they ask you unnecessary questions? i.e income etc etc
  • No they don't, just the normal ones.

Their on-line registration is a farce.

I got a letter with a 16 digit Customer ID and was told that my Telephone Banking number would arrive shortly. Got that ok.

Then I got another letter with my on line 10-digit ID number and 8-digit e-banking code. Can't use that till I get my Registration Number, though.

2 weeks later and 2 telephone calls, no Registration number.

So they reckon it has gone missing in the post and they agreed to send me another one.

But as that comes from a different source from the on-line ID number/e-banking code, the only way they can get me a replacement Registration Number is to send me a new ID number/e-banking code as this triggers the issue of a new Registration number.

Got the new ID/e-banking codes last week - still waiting for new Registration number.

Love it when everything is simple !!!

It will probably take them a couple of days to work this out, then it should be added to your new Issue 3 account. That's what happened last time I switched from one A&L/Santander account to another (Switching is something you need to get used to with Santander and probably most banks, if you want to keep getting decent interest... I've had a Phonesave Premier, Premier Phonesave, Plussaver, Online Tracker, Online Saver Issue 5, eSaver Issue 2 and now eSaver Issue 3 - that's 21st century banking for you!)

    I am a Santander customer -
Current account, actually had for the year dot, so not too fussed about changing that, but have a esaver 2
Just rang them up like the posters above and yea!! Swopped my esaver 2 for a 3 transferred the money all well!!!

Must be the first time I have ever said this - Santander actually worked well!!! I wont say it too loud though, but anything more than a basic savings account and then i still would not touch them with a barge pole!!

Yes I have had experience of previous switches on A & L but am sure that the interest due on the old account was immediately calculated and added to the new account.
Phoned Santander yesterday, think it was India, and after my explaining several times was informed that issue 2 interest due would be added to issue 3 on the day of the month that 3 was opened (I have monthly interest). So that will be March 12th.
I will have to keep an eye on this!
  • Can anyone explain the esaver issue 3 savings rates:

    http://www.santander.co.uk/csgs/Satellite?appID=abbey.internet.Abbeycom&cid=1210610716812&leng=en_GB&pagename=Abbeycom%2FPage%2FWC_ACOM_TemplateG

The NET% (excl bonus) is 0.4% - so with the bonus is it 2.8% NET?

Or to put another way, for a basic rate tax payer - how much monthly interest can be expected per month, for say 10k?

    Thanks!

I changed from esaver 2 to 3 with no problem over the phone 0800 174 635, painless.

The only loss I can see is the plastic card does not work for esaver3, but I had no intention of using that for cash withdrawals anyway.

Good tip from ses6jwg, thank you!
  • I also changed from e saver 2 to e saver 3 via phone with no problem. They also said I could change my bank account with them Premier Direct paying 1% to a Zero Current paying 5% for one year. Only loss I can see is no european travel insurance.
