Not worth the aggravation of having to deal with the appalling customer service.
If you don't deal with them at account opening you'll have to deal with them at closure!
The rate you quote just isn't enough to compensate for their incompetence and the direct financial impact you'll suffer.

    You have been warned!

That's funny because I just phoned the 0800 number, on the phone for 10 minutes, they gave me an account number, moved everything from my Issue 2 into the 3, just logged onto my internet banking and there it is.

But I am an existing customer so no ID needed etc to be sent off.

p.S. Yes I do work for Santander and yes, that the exact experience I just had.

P.P.S They confirmed no cashcard access, however, he said he had linked it to my debit card as I have a c/a so I will try it in the Santander ATM later and see if I can transact on it via the cash point.

It's not 'funny' when you're lied to by their call centre staff (on several occassions) and they hold on to your money for an unacceptable period after account closure.

These are my personal experiences of this shambolic organisation, but it seems I'm not alone .....

I would always reccomend closing your account in branch.

I can confirm today that this account can be linked to an existing Santander debit or cash card.

This means when you use a Santander ATM, you can choose to withdraw/ deposit cash or deposit cheques directly into the eSaver account.

To be clear - if I was to move to Issue 3, the cash card that I was given for my Issue 2 account can still be used?
  • My experience of opening one...

I already have an A&L Online Saver, so I opened an ESaver via online banking. I applied on Tuesday and expected it to open instantly but it didn't. On Friday I received an email to say the account is open.

A&L online banking shows the new ESaver alongside the Online Saver but there is no option to add a new payee. The only way to make a withdrawal is to transfer funds into my Online Saver account and make the withdrawal from there.

The email said they would send my online banking login in the next 10-14 days (how long does it take to print a letter and put it in the post?). So I wait to see if they will send a different login for the ESaver that will allow me to set up a payee to make withdrawals.

Yes, but you need to visit a branch or call telephone banking, and ask them to "link" your new E-Saver to your existing cash card.

I have a Santander current account with Debit MFC, when I go to withdraw cash at a Santander ATM it always asks do I wish to withdraw from the C/A or eSaver.

It also means I can deposit cheques and cash directly into the eSaver using the former A&L Deposit ATMs in the branch foyers.

Not bad for an "online" account ;)

Get login details for Santander online banking and you should be able to set up a bill payment to any UK bank account for electronic transfers out.

Hi, I also upgraded from Issue 2 to Issue 3 over the phone just now - called 0800 389 9875 (M-F 8am-9pm and Sat 8am-4pm) and they did it instantly over the phone. Better to do this over the phone I think - I tried to do it online yesterday and got a message that they would be in touch "usually within 3 business days".
