what really annoys me about this is that the staff at call centers push the Loan and Credit cards as other services and don,t mention the savings as such unless pushed.

now that they have people in the system with the £50 enticement they are looking to sting them .

what is most mysterious is the that this £10 fee appears to have some very easy loopholes ???? i,e open a savings account with a small amount and avoid the charge . why make it so so easy this will just create even more dormant accounts the excat thing they say they are trying to get rid of.:confused::confused::confused::confused: or do they plan on turning the tables on this latter. so being even more greedy.??

    also can someone explain this
We may agree to provide you with another overdraft at the end of the term of your facility and, if we do so, an Arrangement Fee may be payable.

we have a £500 OD with the Joint current account that was automatic when we set it up does this mean that it will run out soon and i will charged a eye watering £25!!! to set it up agian. does this also apply to my wifes sole current account.

So it's okay for banks to break the law as long as you get free banking?

I dont think banks charging people for going overdrawn was a law breaking offence, it may have been excessive depending on the amounts they were charging but I personally dont see it as against the law! they outline it all to you when you open your account, and everyone can easily get a copy of their T&C's and charges. tough !!!!!! if your too damn lazy to not know anything about the bank you are with.

If current account charges are introduced across the table we can in part thank the idiots who claimed back their so-called "unfair penalty charges", when in fact they couldnt control their finances. i've said it before and i'll say it again, they've been rewarded for their financial ineptitude and they've srewed the rest of us in the process.

the others we can all thank is the get your free £25/£50 and !!!!!! off back to your original bank types. the reward for opening an account was never meant for these people, it was meant as an incentive for those who would then show loyalty and stick with FD and use that account for their day-to-day banking needs. yes i admit FD should have predicted these people would have jumped for it and run with the free money, but alot of the blame should also lie with those encouraging this behaviour, that includes this website. how many hundreds of thousands have FD paid to people who took their introductory bonus and then showed FD the V sign?

thats just as wrong and even more immoral than the £10 charge being introduced.

did people think there wouldn't be a back lash to everyone claiming there charges back...........
if they had kept to there agreements in the first place they wouldn't have been charged

precisely! great stuff for your first post!

I think it's to do with the fact that first direct have UK call centres, must cost them a lot to run...

I switched away from first direct a couple of months ago because I thought the monthly charges might come in after all ......

Nationwide building soc and smile.co.uk both have uk based customer contact centres, and nationwides are in swindon or northampton and they are very very very friendly and helpful!

If you think your going to go over your overdraft or you just have call up nationwide and they usally extend your overdraft and wave the fee...

a very very very nice bank. ( well building soc.) and were smile.co.uk does have a fee account the basic is green no money in arms...

I think msn should have a fee free banking campain...:money:

Sorry if any mistakes in spell..

You've got to laugh haven't you really. (This isn't directed at you HeyHo personally!).

The MSE fee free banking campaign would look, in the end, something like this (based on all of Martin's quests at one time or another):
    We demand:
    1. No monthly or annual fees charged
    2. Decent Rates of Interest
    3. No Penalty Charges
    4. No use of 0870/0845 numbers
    5. No ATM/Cheque/Direct Debit etc Charges
    6. No Foreign Currency Fees
    7. Plenty of incentives!

Basically - the moon on a stick. You might get some of those things - but I think the day you see them all together (and the bank stays in business!) will be the day Satan skates to work

  • I have no scruples in screwing banks like First Direct by taking their incentive bonuses and running. They make more money than you can imagine. And now they want to cause more pain for poor people who are forced to use a bank account to get their benefits. It's scandulous. So, now FD have given me the bonuses, they want it back. Deal or no deal? NO DEAL! I'm closing all my accounts and moving the cash over to IceSave - 5.45%. When one door closes, another opens. Ain't capitalism wonderful.

I wonder if I would have to pay the charge seeing that I have a savings account with them too?

I must say that I don't use the bank account that much but I never use the savings account.

I just don't know if this excludes me from paying or not?

i phoned them and they said if you have savings account or credit card wou wont pay charge.

No it's not. According to the link:

"No PINs, passwords or information about financial transactions were contained on the computer, and no account details such as customer names, account numbers or sort codes were compromised, Nationwide told ZDNet UK on Monday."
