lol - They are both. Absolutely lovely to suggest it and to give up their lovely QUIET home to let us 6 move in, but they are crazy and the more we think about it the more we think it might not work

It is great to have parents that are willing to help, but they are already 'taking over' so to speak. We were going to pay them dig/rent money, but we will be giving up so much freedom. It will be on their terms, we wont be able to fully relax, plus my dad works from home so we will have to try and keep the kids sort of quiet lol (although my dad is planning on moving his office into the garage so wont be too much noise)

    .

Go with your hunch. Sounds like you already know it is unlikely to work out in practice.

We already are in a mortgaged property - bought it 8 years ago when my husband was fine and working, when he got ill we had to fight for his incapacity but we still had to pay our mortgage - this is where my lovely parents stepped in and helped us out BIG time financially so we actually had some food to eat

we get all the above benefits whilst in our mortgaged home - we are thinking of selling it and moving in with my parents

I find it all very confusing lol

    xx

Are you receiving help from DWP with mortgage interest payments?

Why don't you sell your house and buy a place somewhere else? If you have a 'portable' mortgage it would be possible to move to another area if you could find a house around the same price as you sell ... or less.

I am in a similar situation ... I had bought my house a few years before I too had to leave work because of my health. I now need to move into a bungalow (I have a house) and also move to be near family for care needs - they live 100 miles away, and so my house is up for sale.

Moving in to live with your parents could be a disaster. I am very close to my parents but to move and live back home again would be difficult. I love going to stay for a couple of weeks (I did so at Christmas and at times go to stay for a long weekend) but after that I am glad to have my own space.

You have to realise that your parents will have to adapt - they too need their own space. Ofcourse they will do anything for you but however close you are it would be extremely difficult.
