I'm not familiar with any of those you've pointed out - can only say make sure that the bowl capacity is big enough for what you're likely to mix now - PLUS what you're likely to use it for in the future.

    This is mine: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4226859/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CKitchen+and+laundry%7C14418476/c_2/3%7C15701302%7CSmall+kitchen+appliances%7C14418587/c_3/4%7Ccat_14418587%7CFood+processors+and+mixers%7C14418606.htm#pdpFullProductInformation

I agree with the reviews on mine that the disc storage is great BUT it could do with something to store the mixing blades in.

I never use mine for basic Victoria Sponge Mix though - love to hand mix those.

I also have the James Martin Handmixer - which I also love.

Hope you manage to find something you really like :D - Ollie

Its great does everything I want and more, easy to clean but..................

Wish I'd got one with a bigger bowl, and we're not a big family.

Yes it does have a mixer attachment, but I've never used it :o - as I say I like to hand mix for sandwich cakes Luckily I had some vouchers that I'd been given in work and those paid for the FP.

I love my James Martin jobby for things like eggwhites. It came with beaters, dough hooks and a balloon whisk. I've had it for years and paid £14 at the time of buying.

It no longer has the balloon whisk with it now: http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500002451&langId=-1&searchTerms=JAMES+MARTIN+HAND+MIXER

I bought this one (the silver Cookworks one) when it was on offer. It was a horrible flimsy thing, I took it back for a refund without even bothering to use it. Steer clear.

I replaced it with the Kenwood FP730 that someone linked to above, and it's fantastic. It's very well built, the bowl size is very good, and the attachments all work very well (not that I use them a lot). I would definitely recommend it.

Could you get one elsewhere maybe and use the Argos voucher for something else, like Christmas presents?

I've got that mixer too, but mine is the older model. I was lucky enough to get mine off freecycle although I did have to buy a new bowl. That's one thing I like about Kenwood things, if something does break it's easy to get a replacement part. Mine must be at least 10-15 years old and has had other bits bought and added to it.

I must point out the mixer attachment is only for whipping cream or egg whites, if you want to make cakes in it you use the standard blade.

i spent ten years as a commercial kitchen engineer repairing equipment everyday, the only make that is used in a commercial kitchen is magimix, not the cheapest but comes with a 5 year motor warranty,it will take whatever you throw at it and come back for more , parts are cheap and easy to find and it wont be "they dont make parts for that anymore" if it does go wrong in 5 years time, i didn't ever see a kenwood anything in a professional kitchen, they wouldn't last a week with the punishment chefs dish out
  • I too second a magimix - I love mine it does everything i need of it. But it was a "special" purchase as it was just so flippin expensive, that said i hope it will last me many, many years. It is always on the side and always being used, only bit i have never used is the juicer but thats only cause i never have any need for it.

Well there's also Robot Coupe which is what I've always used in professional kitchens, but then you're talking big bucks. I think the cheapest is about £500. I know a grating disc alone is about £50! And money aside, they're not exactly pretty.

We have this Philips blender in our kitchen at work and it gets a hammering, so perhaps this Philips food processor might be pretty good.
