dresses with straps?

I wanted a dress with straps too and also had a budget of £500. I've ended up with a strapless dress and I am going to have straps added to it!

I was really disappointed with the number of dresses that had straps in the shops I went to. I didn't even think about being able to add straps to a strapless one until the last shop I went to (and where I ended up buying my dress from!) suggested it.

I've got my first dress fitting in May so I won't find out what my dress could look like with straps until then but fingers crossed I still like it!

lol i know what you mean, theres also some strapless dresses that wont look right with straps...and some dresses that were made to have them!

plus i dont know what type of strap i want! i dont think i want just plain spaghetti ones

I would definately go looking round bridal shops, as even though dresses look strapless a lot of them come with detachable straps wich you can add on. I managed to get my dress from a bridal shop for £500 reduced from £1300, so definately worth a look round, that way you get to try on first so you know the style and fit is right for you.

thanks amus, i definitely need to have a look round bridal shops....they just always seen scary LOL
and im always annoyed that places like debenhams and BHS sell wedding dresses....but they are never instore! LOL

If you are coming into Manchester - do not go into Celebration Village. They were terrifying! I liked it in Berketex for the advice but they were a tad formal and stuffy but Bride Be Lovely next to Debenhams were absolute stars!

I could try on as many - or as few - dresses as I wanted to. The lady was really helpful and not at all pushy - didn't try and make you go for the most expensive dress in the shop. For me she actually suggested a £100 bridesmaid dress in ivory instead of a full wedding dress and she even found a sale dress for £325 in my size. She didn't even try and pressure me when I said I wanted to go away and think about it. She was quite mancunion and straight to the point - but I quite liked that as I had no idea what I was doing!

thanks for the advice...i only just got a phone call from my mum this morning saying someone at work suggested celebration village......they said it was a HUGE dress shop.....are they bad?

It is huuuge - I was a little initimidated. The lady didn't listen to a thing I said I just kept thrusting dresses at me. I tried on a couple to be polite and then tried to leave (tactfully) I think I'd been in 5/6 dresses tho before I could leave tactfully - i.e. without doing a flounce and saying I hated them all. The shop smelt damp and the dresses were dirty (obv they'd order you a nice fresh new one from the suppliers if you bought them) and I smelt musty all the way home. They didn't help you get into or out of the dresses (harder than it sounds!) and kept on yanking open the curtain (also dirty) to see how I was gettin on which meant the shop got several lovely views of my moonlike bum and wobbly belly. Its a good job I'm not too modest and wasn't too bothered but I can imagine other people would be.

I'd say that by all means go there - but not as your first shop as you'll never want to go in a shop again! Go in some nicer ones first and get an idea of what you're after. Then go there and cruise their sale racks. I would recommend you factor in a cleaning cost if you do get a reduced dress off the peg though.

Sorry for the rant but I really didn't like it there !

Don't worry about going and trying dresses on, Just take some one with you that will play along ! I went twice to try dresses on at the same shop. The first time the assistant (not the owner) said to me that "the good thing about a Maggie dress is that you will always be able to sell it on ebay afterwards! " so I came home and started trawling ebay lol! The best thing about trying them on in the shop is that they know how to put you in it so it fits right. And you will get a feel for what is right. I loved Maggies victoriana until I put it on !
