  • this is what I dont understand. My brother once resold something we bought over 2 years ago. we used the sellers picture, but did state this in the auction as we did not have a camera, and did credit the original seller.

The next thing we knew, we had an horrible email from the seller, ebay stopped the auction, we had an email from ebay, and a strike against his name!!

why dont they take action like this against fraudsters??????

I guess it was easy to prove you had used someone elses picture because you said so.
Fraudsters are not always easy to prove and they have to be reported before anything is done.:(

I think the simple answer is that there is no way to protect your listings.

It's only a picture anyway! Although it's annoying, it's no different to someone saving a web page they don't own, or nicking a picture from a website.
  • christ, how petty are some people? Its not as if its a work of art which someone has stolen.

I very often google for a picture for the item im selling and use that, if it is IDENTICAL to the item im selling and shows the item in the same condition. If my item is worn or warrents it own picture then i`ll take my own picture using my camera, edit it and upload it.

interestingly enough the anti right click is not that effective..

left click on picture, then press the context key (next to right ctrl key) and the context menu appears. There is also another way, i think by pressing and holding shift then the right mouse button on the pic and it will still show the menu.

    Watermark is always the best.

Yeah but if you have personal items in the pic (her wallpaper for instance) it feels like something is stolen from you.:(
I always take the backgrounds out on my pics .
Some people may not have the item at all and pinch pics to make it look like they have .

OH works for a picture library, they charge for unauthorised use of their pictures and employ a web investigator to search for unauthorised users.

He now has a new owner - please send ransom note to them! :D

Also - I did say in my post.......
"Quite a good, easy way of protecting your ad in general, not just your pic, although it's not entirely foolproof. If you're savvy enough..."

For many sellers wishing to add a little free protection, it's still quite good.

I know 2 or 3 ways to get the context menu back (very easily)

Even if I didn't, I could just use the print-screen key and crop it in a paint/photo prog

£5 for a pic! I wouldn't have paid that! but that is good for future reference I am gonna check out more auctions that are similar to mine and find my pics!! icon10.gif

I have had a whole listing stolen before! and the cheeky monkey sold his item and I didn't!! I wouldn't mind if my auction had ended! or even if someone emails you asking to use it - that would be ok! if they just take it I would sabotage the original photo which would (I think) show in their listing!
    :p:p Angel :p:p
