The problem is that we are worried that very new posters i.e first timers who reopen very old threads have an ulterior motive,

This may be misguided , but will admit reaching for the Spam button .
  • I typed in wetroom on google and this was the top link, didn't look at the date before replying, apologises if this isn't the right way of doing things, but as i'm in the trade I thought my advice may be of use!!

he has just replied to a very old thread .
And gave a ( his) professional opinion.

You have company in your gullibility.

In an effort to check on this I ran "Patto" and "bathroom" through Google, and found that most of the leads were to people who had added new bathrooms and "patto" doors to their houses.

If he's advertising, he's going about it in a very funny way!

Incidentally, I too just found this thread when using Google to try and find out the price differential between an ordinary bathroom and one with a level access shower.

Seems like the old rule about "shop around" applies, and "check their references" applies double - if you DIY you can get it wrong, but a builder who thinks that "you don't need all that fancy stuff," can get it just as wrong for you.

Also that the cost differential between a "full" wet room (entire room tanked) and a flat access shower with a single screen is substantial. Both useful tips - so the thread is still serving a useful purpose for bathroom novices, even if the prices are out of date.

liquid Rubber show a youtube flim, where they use LR for base coat over walls and floor, then stick tiles on top of second coat, and silicone grout, looked pretty simple and a lot less than £10k

my landlord lives next door.. Before i move in, they had done a ''wet room'' and tiled all around
landlord firsstly compained that me and my wife were in the shower day and night- which i politely dismised .
Then his wooden floor got ruined and one day i went to remove some of the tiles.
Tiled straight on a standard white plasterboard - and he calls it ''wet room''
I have done few of them but it has cost me some 200 quid or more to apply 2 coat of tanking on the rendered or boarded wall and floor and pecial tape between gaps etc..
It needs to withstand water and it needs to be done propery ... its costly
