Hi everyone
I was in the car with my partner and 6 month old daughter today when we were pulled over by the police.
My partner was asked to get into the police car to speak to the officer where it was explained to him that the car we were in had flagged up as having no valid insurance.
The situation is we ordered a vehicle through the NHS staff leasing scheme in May 2010 and were promised delivery within 12 weeks..we are still waiting.
Meanwhile we have had 2 courtesy vehicles (the first a Peugeot 106-not good with a baby), the second a VW Golf-the car we were in today.
Never have we been told we need insurance (the lease vehicle we will eventually get is fully taxed, insured etc).
My partner needs to produce his DL and a copy of the ins docs within 7 days and we are worried whether we are going to get into trouble. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks for reading

Best bet is to phone up the company you have got the car from and explain whats happened, whatever you do though is make sure that you do it ASAP (tomorrow if possible), as if they don't do it straight away its you/your partner that will get in trouble sadly. What is pi? Where did it come from?0

Clearly you have not insured the car, so you have to hope whoever gave it to you has.
The good news is nobody's going to prison, worse way it should be a fine and a few points.
Who has been paying for you to have a courtesy car for nine months?
I hope this is not another example of shambolic public finances, but I fear it may be.0 -
We have not insured the car as we assumed it was a courtesy vehicle. Have not had it for 9 months-has been 8 weeks at most, the car was given to us by NHS Leasing services who will be providing the vehicle we originally ordered. Shambolic public finances? What??0

If the police were convinced there was no insurance they could have seized the vehicle and issued a fixed penalty notice for 6 points and £200. Obviously they are not convinced but still suspect that it isn't insured. As suggested above you need to contact the lease company ASAP and get them to send you proof of insurance.
When you say this is a "courtesy vehicle" - what does that mean? I presume you would be paying for the lease vehicle, are you paying at the moment for the one you're using?
ETA: Doyou have any documentation re the vehicle you're using, does it mention anything about insurance being included?0 -
6 points and £200 for no insurance, I think.0

As it would be commercial insurance, the leasing agency is responsible for uploading insurance details onto the police database. Possibly the car is insured but it didn't get included.
Contact the leasing agency and ask if insurance is covered with the lease.0 -
You can check online
askmid.com
click top right (check your own vehicle for free)
This will tell you if the vehicle is on the national insurance database
Hope this helps0 -
6 points and £200 for no insurance, I think.
Driving without insurance is a serious offence which can result in an immediate disqualification from driving. A driving ban can often be in the region of 28 days but can also be substantially longer for repeat offences.
For first offences, the Court would normally impose between 6 and 8 penalty points, but no ban, plus a fine of up to £5000.0 -
