Before you do anything too drastic (like re-installing Windows) you need to pull-off any files you need to save. To gain access to this info, use your wifes' PC to download and burn a Linux Distro (something like Ubuntuu or PCLinuxOS). You can boot from this, and see if all is well. You can access your Windows partition and pull all your critical files onto a USB Pendrive or Harddrive.

You can also take a look at 'C:/boot.log (NOT in Vista or 7 though).

Cheers patman99 for the reply but i cannot even reinstall windows at the moment as the discdrive just does not do anything even with the windows disc in?
I have always put any info onto an external drive after loosing everything once before.

USB drives fail too, putting everything on there is risky, you need at least 2 copies for a backup.

What type of keyboard is it, wireless?

pull all usb connections out, hard disk, printers etc, and try safe mode.

Sounding graphics card related, you can find what type by looking inside

And then at the bottom of the page

  • Firstly you have to rule out a faulty monitor do you have another you can use or connect your pc up to a laptop and use that screen.

Reinstalling the op system is a bit drastic until you have done the above.

sorry if this sounds thick but would that cause my computer to keep going around around to where the f8 button takes me? ie: safe mode etc?
I hope that does not sound rude pompyfaith but typing can appear that way and i assure you i am not meaning to be rude.

well i wouldnt have thought so but if you do have a working monitor(or connect teh unit to your laptop via the blue vga cable) theres no harm in just checking it isnt the monitor, it sounds more like theres a problem somewhere else
