I sloshed a bit of jack Daniels on mine this weekend  oh but it cooked very nice.
I finished it in the oven with a touch of honey brushed over. My littlies had it with mash, peas and sweetcorn. And a Yorkshire pud for DS. I had some in my lunch today with chicken and salad which was very nice too!Bossymoo

I do my gammon as a full roast on day one
Day two will be bubble and squeak and gammon ( using the left over veggies, cook extra on day one)
Then ham egg and chips
Then bits in a quiche
And the original stock will make lentil and ham soup for at least eight portions
One of the most versatile and economical pieces of meat imho0 -
We always do our gammon in coke in the slow cooker then finish it off in the oven drizzled with honey and with pineapple on top. I normally serve it with steamed veg and cheese sauce.0

Just curious, but has it always been usual to have gammon as a roast in some families/parts of the country?
I notice they do it in carveries and on school meals menus in recent years.
When I was a child we never had gammon with gravy, always parsley sauce or cold cuts.
Is it a new thing to keep costs down do you think?0 -
This week we have had a gammon dinner, then gammon and pea soup, gammon and mushrooms and cheese on toast, gammon and king prawn stirfry, 2x gammon quiches, and I have enough left to do gammon and egg or gammon and cauliflower cheese tomorrow night.
It will have made 16 main meals and 16 lunches :j Gammon is one of the best meats to stretch out

I've only ever bought gammon as steaks but would like to give a joint in the slow cooker a go. Just going to see how the kids like it in coke as they are funny eatersHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

It's well worth buying a joint (about £4 per kg in Aldi or Lidl). Eevn if you use it to make sandwiches, it's hugely cheaper and tastier than buying cooked ham. It freezes beautifully too.0 -
I shop at tesco so I've had a quick look online at what's available. Looking forward to trying itHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0
