  • These mightn't work either but I'll post them as possibilities...

Some sort of an apple sauce with the Pork goes well. Also, as you thought of, peas are good, maybe carrots also (honey glazed and cut like chips to make them more appealing - same with parsnips - oh, also oven roasted.)

With gammon, you could go for either pineapple or egg.

a traditional meal is gammon, egg, chips and peas :)

Or you could do roast potatoes, roasted veg, peas, carrots, broccoli with the meat along with yorkshire puddings.

risotto with the meat on the side.

Nigella suggests this to go with her pork in cola recipe:

  • I often do a slow cooked gammon in pineapple juice over Christmas and serve it with macaroni cheese with peas and sweetcorn on the side. Nigella has a 'Christmassy' macaroni cheese in her Christmas book using evaporated milk!! but I just make my usual macaroni cheese using the roux method and add in some stilton as well as the cheddar to make it a bit more festive

Thanks everyone. I obv didn't read my title before I posted. I meant to write gammon and coke and ended up writing gammon and pork. Doh!

Thanks for everyone's ideas. I am slowly getting back into actually cooking my kids good meals.

Need more ideas about tasty veg as they seem to hate it (what kid doesn't) and how to make them more interesting? Although, maybe that's a separate thread in itself!

  • Veg we like with gammon are:
    - roast parsnips
    - butter beans in a white or parsley sauce
    - braised red cabbage with onion and apple
    - curly kale or spinach

Don't know whether any of these would go down well with your lot?

Same her but I feel a bit extravagant as some people eat the cauli cheese as a meal in itself.:o I console myself by getting the cauli from Aldi.

OP, if your children like chips, why not try making home made potato wedges?

you could serve with salad and rice - lovely for a summer dinner. or use cous cous in place of the rice.
My OHs favourite is with sliced cooked potato baked in a cheese sauce and with breadcrumb and cheese crispy topping.
I like mine with spicy wedges.
