I find most kitchen or living room tasks except vacuuming can be done during the programmes. I always try to schedule washing up for when something interesting, but not requiring full attention, like a quiz show, is on.Eco Miser

I do this too! You can get quite a bit done in ad breaks! I often do the washing up in ad breaks - fill the sink with hot water and leave to soak till 1st break, carefully fish out and wash items trying not to burn fingers, wash as many as ad break will allow then rush back to the tv! In the next ad break, I clear the draining board of all the dry items as my draining board is very small, then carry on with the washing up until it's time to run back to the tv, and so on until it's all done!
It's a good way of getting things done because not only does it save time but also it doesn't really feel like your doing any housework because it's in such small bitesize chunks0 -
I only ever watch things on my Sky+ planner, so I can forward through the advertisements.
It's amazing what you notice - most programmes are on for 5-7 minutes before the first ad break and an hour programme is actually 46 minutes without the ads!0 -

I totally agree, and if I do start watching TV in that 'automatic' way again, I now wonder where the evening has gone. Mind you, it's possible MSE has taken over from TV...:o'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

I think it's a good thing to just sit down and relax for a while in the evening, especially if you're looking after a family; never mind jumping up and down every few minutes to do YET MORE jobs!0

I do this too!
I despise adverts ( they are always so LOUD! and they seem longer these days too) and try to get odd things done whilst they're on - washing up, hanging clothes on airer, bin out etc.
I also have the advantage of not having to run back from the kitchen when the programme resumes as I can still see the TV from there!0 -

Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Excellent idea ,only trouble is I tend to watch stuff on catch-up so the adverts are eliminated I don't watch a lot of commercial t.v. anyway, but I have noticed that the Beeb seem to be sneaking adverts in for their programmes which almost take the same amount of time as the 'proper' ones IYKWIM.My t.v. goes on around 6.00p.m.for the news mainly then I 'pick & mix' what I watch after that.I am a great history nut so I do watch quite a bit on the History channel and love documentaries. I enjoy Holby City but mainly because the actor who plays 'Joseph' is such a hunk.I never saw a dishy doctor in all the time I was in and out of hospital, mind you i don't think I would have taken much notice of them anyway when I was poorly
I agree-what a hunky monkey!!:rotfl:£20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**0 -
Been doing this for ages. Often watch TV all morning but still get all chores done, dishwasher/kitchen, hoovering, filling bird tables outside etc, by just doing the jobs during the ad breaks. Get a smug feeling that Im not allowing myself to be influenced by the advertisers and spending money as well. Hee hee!0

i generally giv emyself a task in the advert's, i'll unload dishwasher, refill it, make lunc boxes, hoover, take bins out, wash and dry hair then can straighteb while watching, etc etc.
but one thing i do like doing is when the prog starts i hit the pause button on sky , and spend 15 mins say doing quick little job's. so when i dod sit down i can just wizz past the advert's.
Me too:)
