What is meant by ''half board with beverages included'

As the title suggests can anyone shed any light on exactly what this means. I am assuming you get a drink with breakfast and one with dinner?

actually, it could mean a few things.

It could mean just drinks with meals, or it could mean you get drinks between a set time (like on all inclusive), however the only FOOD you will get is breakfast & evening meal, and there will be no lunch or snacks.

Which hotel / destination / operator have you seen it with?

It is half board WITH beverages not half board AND beverages.

A good travel agent would understand the difference !

I'm starting to think allowing travel agents to advertise on here is a really bad idea when I see posts like the one above as it is clear their knowledge is somewhat patchy.

Its on the Travel republic site and the hotel is the Roc Flamingo Hotel in Torremolinos. I know about the 2 meals but wasn't sure about the drinks as I have never seen it before.

Ouch! why doyou have a problem with HXDave? They were only offering a suggestion of the interpretations that may be made! How can you know you are right when you don't even know the tour operator? I don't see a travel agent advertising...unless I missed something?!

Thirty years experience in the travel industry tells me I'm right-it's a very clear and well known difference in phrase.

I've seen several posts by travel agents with inaccurate or misleading info -Dave's not the only culprit -but it has led me to feel that punting for business isn't appropriate.

And 'beverages' probably doesn't cover alcoholic drinks - just tea/coffee

Duchy, very brave words there. I'm glad you can live with the fact that everything you interprit in your way is correct, whilst others may 'research' before hand in order to ensure the information is correct. As you see on my post, i do not state that it is 1 way or the other, I just give my interpretations of what it could be, and then seek further indormation in order to clarify my thoughts.

Now it is interesting when you look at the Travel Republic website as to how they show the rooms. Take this example for the same hotel:

I have used 5 may - 07 nights - Roc Flamingo hotel - 02 Adults from the travel republic site.

    It offers:

    Room only accommodation
    Bed & Breakfast
    Half Board £127 pp
Half Board with Beverages Included £142pp
    Half Board (1/4L wine + 1/4L water)
    Continental Breakfast 155pp
    Full Board £164pp
    Full Board Beverages Included £183pp
    Full Board (1/4L wine + 1/4L water) £187pp
    All Inclusive £201

Strange how the half board / full board options with beverages included are cheaper than the same HB / FB with just limited wine / water. After all, if you have beverages included, why not just ask for a wine, or water.

Next, when you look at the hotel website itself for the same dates, the hotel itself only offers Bed & Breakfast or All Inclusive. With this, how is travel republic getting all these different room options & combinations?

And finally Duchy, may i refer you to your final comment:
I've seen several posts by travel agents with inaccurate or misleading info -Dave's not the only culprit -but it has led me to feel that punting for business isn't appropriate.

I take it that literacy is not your strongest subject, and that you have a problem reading. I simply ask you to read my signature below. Maybe you could get someone to explain it to you if you are having problems understanding it. However, if you are alone, i will explain for you. It states that i am here to give my view & my view alone. It also states that I am not here to seek financial gains or bookings, meaning that i am not (I repeat NOT) punting for business or booking.

    Kind regards to you all

Of course you are Dave -you mention who you work for in posts-it's self promotion regardless of what your tag says. Forum rules at the moment just about allow this-I'm not saying you are doing anything wrong within the rules......but I am thinking it may not be entirely appropriate.

Simple example-there's always a lot of chat on the LV thread about the Virgin direct flight-and if the ease of direct outweighs the other problems it has (poor seats, less than stellar CC, stag groups etc). One poster was valiently defending the flights -but didn't make it clear they worked for the company and was in my view misleading at times by talking about the entire fleet-when the discussion was only about the Vegas and Orlando flights-which as you are aware are indeed the red headed stepchildren of the Virgin fleet-and an entirely differant experience than say the JFK or LAX flights which have far better equipment.

To me that's as bad as the (say) Thomas Cook high street agent who isn't unbiased in their advice either as they are directed to sell more of their own company's product than the other multiples products. People expect transparency on a board like this-I'm not convinced in the current way of doing things that is happening at present. I do believe travel agents if permitted to post should be held to a higher standard and not promote their own products regardless of value or accuracy. If someone is posting as a travel agent then some people will assume it's the "best" advice when it isn't always the case. Tightening up would benefit the good agents too-as their credibility wouldn't be affected when a "bad" or biased post is made by another less adept agent too.

Travel is always going to be subjective-one person's dream holiday can be another's holiday from hell but I do believe a forum like this should be more objective than the local travel shop !

    Duchy,
Of course you are Dave -you mention who you work for in posts-

so who do i work for then?

I ask you to find 1 post that gives the correct name of the travel agency i am sat in right now.

    as for your final comment:
Travel is always going to be subjective-one person's dream holiday can be another's holiday from hell but I do believe a forum like this should be more objective than the local travel shop !

you think that travel (and travel forums) are the only thing like this? Wake up and smell the coffee.

You look at almost any section of the forums on here, and you will find one person's view can be massively different from another persons view. Take for example Credit Card Forums. A poster may ask about a new Egg credit card. Some replies might come back and say it's the best thing they've had since sliced bread - others will say avoid like the plague. Of course though, you won't get Egg employees posting raving reviews on there will you (sic), or rival credit card companies posting negative views. However they are not required to state what their occupation is.

At the end of the day, i post my views, thoughts & comments on here (and you will see that very rarely do i wander from the Oversea's Holidays Thrads). If people want to take my advice on board then fine. If not, well it's no skin of my nose.

Now finally Duchy, you know that i am a travel agent. Are you still a travel agent / in the travel industry as you imply, or have you 'moved on'?
