receipt for used car

Hi folks
A question for the legal eagles on here.
With my partner I bought a used car from a private seller at his home last week using cash.
I was not offered a receipt at point of sale nor did I remember to ask for one at the time.
The V5 reg doc was completed and signed by both of us and I hope that he has sent his portion off as I have mine ( recorded delivery)
Realising later that I didn't have one I rang the guy up and asked for him to post one to me ( 200 mile round trip to his house) to which he agreed.
Unfortunately it has not arrived. I have rung again and reminded him on the answerphone.
My question is if this receipt is not forthcoming can I rightfully/legally demand one and what action would I need to take to if he refuses or does not comply?

You have asked him twice, ask him once more then either leave it or drive there and get one if it is so important to you.
Nothing you can do o force him to give you one. Your mistake.0 -
You can't force anyone to give you a receipt and as you have the goods and the seller has the cash, why would you want one?0

Thanks for your response.
No doubt my error but If your right and there's no legal obligation on his part then driving there won't neccessarily produce the results I want either.0 -

A hand written receipt isn't worth the paper it's written on. If you want one write one out yourself, it's about as legally binding lol0

I digress.
Perhaps in and by itself you could be right but in the final analysis if and how legally binding any hand written receipt would be may be dictated by the amount of detail conferred to it ie signatures witnesses and actual wording etc.
Further if tested it could bring additional weight or support to other evidence as to 'proof of purchase'
Indeed in a county court judges to seem to have a mind not only to the rules of law but also to how a witness presents.
A detailed hand written receipt signed and witnessed would I imagine be treated with some weight when summing up as to proof of purchase.
PS: Further as to why one would want a receipt
It is important because it is the seller's acknowledgement that you have paid the agreed purchase price in full.0 -

I think you mean 'I disagree' as the rest of your post is anything but a digression.
Forgive me, I digress.:)0 -
A hand written receipt isn't proof of anything. You could get your next door neighbour to write one for you, a stranger in the street even. It carries no weight whatsoever.0
