I'm another skanky one as well :D

    Knickers and socks daily.
    Trousers about once a week.
    Tee shirts/whatever ever two days
Outer layers about once a week.

Gardening clothes, assuming not caked in mud are folder up and put away again about 3 times.

Tee shirt for sleeping in, once a week.

Slobbing about clothes at night, washed about once a week.

All this is more regular in the summer for obvious reasons, sniff test here as well :D

I use a wash basket for clothes that need washing, take it all out when it gets to the top, this is about a load in the washing machine.

What about the cost of buying the clothes, if you change them every day? I own three work skirts, which cost me about £40-£50 each. If I were to change them every day then I'd have to have at least 10 of them - which to me would just be a silly waste of money.
  • Underwear and socks are changed at least once per day.
Work tops or tops I've spent the day in are washed after one wear.
A top that's been worn a few hours will get a 2nd wear.
Work trousers get about 2 wears in a week.
Jeans can go up to 3 days so long as nothing has made them visibly dirty.
Jumpers/Cardigans can go a few days or until something is spilt on it.
Jammies/lounging about clothes can usually get 2 wears.
Debt: Started at £4780, now at £4190 :)
Comp Wins 2014: None yet :(
  • I thought I had OCD. I feel better after reading this thread! :D

Since having my own washing machine (and not having to lug my laundry to parents) I now wear everything only once. I'm paranoid about smells (and I have met some smelly people in my time!, it scares me) & It makes me feel better knowing what I'm putting on is fresh n clean.

Last week there was a day where I changed my underwear and socks 3 times in one day but I usually do that once a day lol. I shower/bath once or twice a day. I think I have too much time on my hands! Also I love the smell of the fabric conditioner I use, It makes my home smell lovely! Maybe I use too much of it.

There was a program I watched on tv where a lady took about 6 showers a day!! and was constantly cleaning her home.
    Whether we win or lose,
that we played at all was a winning decision. :D

    Interesting...!

Knickers and socks are changed every morning, and sometimes again at night. Bras, 3 days unless sweaty or something... t-shirts changed every day, jeans/ trousers every 3 days unless visibly dirty. Jumpers/hoodies are worn until they're dirty unless there is a visible mark on them. Im also paranoid about smelling so I constantly have a massive laundry pile!

I don't like smelly clothes stinking up the bathroom in my laundry basket so I wouldn't walk around in them. I had a lovely boyfriend once who genuinely didn't think he could possibly stink that badly. He was wrong. I couldn't handle a life of rancid whiffy stinkiness so we broke up.

Our skin cells rub off on our clothes and start rotting. Sometimes the stuff at the bottom of the laundry basket, or the towel on the rail feels warm. This is not because it is kept in a warm room, it is because of furious stinky bacterial and microbial activity.

My groin is one of the hottest places on my body.

My knickers are not a hazmat suit.

They are made of flimsy thin permeable fabric.

Therefore my jeans need washing every time I wear them.

    That seems logical to me.

To you maybe, but here's my logic.;)

I wear cotton pants, like most everyday pants they have a double thickness gusset, the outside of them doesn't get wet, so why would I need to change my jeans after one wear - and, for that matter, what if I was out for the whole day, surely my jeans would start to smell halfway through the day... do I need an overnight bag for work?

That's why we wear pants ( eell most of us do!!) imho , a shower in the morning would be enough to keep 90% of us smelling fine all day, of the other 10%, most would be cured with deodorant. There are a few people who have problems with excessive sweating, I'd agree they need to change their clothes more regularly.:)

It's not the dead skin cells rotting ( otherwise that dusty shelf would be really smelly) it's the bacteria that builds up on skin in sweaty places, as the day go on they multiply... hence people change their undies every day and T shirts every day, but can wear their trousers a bit longer.;)

I wear most clothes 2 days then wash them. Not always 2 consecutive days though.
To avoid the pile of clothes that have been worn once, I hang mine back up in my wardrobe but turn them 'inside out' . Then when I look for something to wear I can easily see which clothes I have worn, (which will be inside out) and therefore can wear once more before going in the wash.
Saves on re ironing worn clothes!

What a fab idea! I hang/fold mine for 're-wearing' too, first I usually give them some time on a hanger to air them and then put them in the wardrobe. But turning them inside out is genius.

    saves on washing :D

But ew, think of your sheets/quilt covers!!!!!!! OH doesn't wear anything in bed and I shudder to think about him sweating on the good sheets, aaaaaarrrrgggghhhhhh. :rotfl: I wear pyjamas all winter and most of spring and autumn too!

    In answer to the OP:

Bras - wear for a few days/up to a week
Sports bras - wash after each wear
Sports/gym tops - wash after each wear
    Sports/gym bottoms - wear twice/three times
Tops next to the skin, and dresses - wear twice (not usually on consecutive days, then everyone will know they're not washed lol) unless sweaty - then wash after one wear
Pants and socks - change every day and I wear pantyliners most days too
Trousers, skirts, cardigans, coats etc - wear until dirty
Going out dancing clothes - wash after each wear (usually sweaty/drink spilt on them)
Pyjamas - wear for about a week (is that bad???)
Bedlinen - changed weekly (wish it could be daily - grrr @ OH)

How do I compare in the minging stakes??? :rotfl:

I've only read page 1 so am off to catch up on the rest now. Interesting question OP!

We did a tour of the submarine down in Chatham docks, the submariner giving us the tour took great delight in letting us know how three pairs of Ys would last for a 3 month trip...

1st week on the right way
2nd week on back to front
3rd week on inside out facing forward
4th week on inside out and back to front

They only had a tiny box to store all their stuff in, and he reckoned once they were all smelly no one really noticed. They got to wash once a week, with one sinkful of water.

    That's for the tourists.....
I was in the Royal Navy for over 11 years, and every sea going vessel has a 'chogi' (a chinese laundryman), and he charges are very small fee to wash, iron, and return clothes within a few hours :)

Reading the rest of this thread has made me feel quite ill.
    I didn't realise women were so 'dribbly'.........._pale_
