why would people think you're going to get rid of your cats just because you're having a baby?!

    Apparantly they are going to:

Smother the baby (not one confirmed case of this happening - ever!)
Give the baby a hairball (!!!!!!?)
    Or my all time favourite:
Eat the baby - have you ever heard something so ridiculous in your life?

I didn't mind the first couple of times I was asked - I just explained that cats wouldn't be sleeping in the cot with baby or left alone with baby anyway so there isn't going to be a problem. But the same people keep asking me over and over again what im going to do with them - I snapped yesterday and just said that my nan had a cat for 17 years and it never killed me and then I got accused of being "overprotective" of the cats and "hormonal"

I know these people don't like cats but sorry I do and Im not going to turf them out just because Im having a baby!

    Rant over.

If one more person asks me if Im getting rid of my cats Im going to scream  How hard is it to understand that im not?

I have 6 cats and haven't had that one in a while.. but I do get 'you'll have to cut your hair/nails' ... erm... why???

Some people have some odd ideas.

Though Mil has the moodiest cat in the world she will only be stroked if she wants to be stroked, doesn't want to sit on laps and is overall a grump!

She was caught in the act of snuggling in the bottom of the travel cot with the baby when we were there last weekend.. was ok until she decided to jump out and stepped on the baby and woke her up lol

Apricot you and your OH sound just like me and mine. Last time we were at IKEA we had decided on everything we wanted before we left and checked we would have enough room in OH's van. When we got there he decided he didnt like a couple of things so swapped them , so once he changed his mind about wardrobes , I then had to change my ideas about drawers to match , so after loads of arguing we got out to the van and started loading up ......... then it dawned on me , all the new stuff was bigger than what we wanted and there was no way it was going in the van. But OH being a man was going to "make" it fit , so after about an hour or huffing , puffing, pulling , dragging , opening boxes I just gave up and said " Im going in to organise a delivery " this didnt go down well, cost us a fortune and made OH less of a man (!!!!!! ?), so he vowed never to go again , lol
Re -Cats , weve had the same issue with the dog and even had people saying we are being selfish or have said dont come asking me for help when you realise its not easy having a dog and a baby. What about people who have more than one child ? Do people ask what you are going to do with them before baby arrives? lol An animal is no different.
Thanks to MSE for making it possible for me save to buy my new flat , yay !!
Gorgeous baby boy born 7/7/11 :D

We are all cheering for you now Waterbaby, as I am sure you are on the home straight!

Thank you I really appreciate it. Just spent ages crying. The contractions haven't picked up at all. It's so frustrating,

I'm going out for my walk shortly. I won't be able to go far as I weigh so much and my bump is so heavy on my back but I can only try can't I.

thought it might be! so am i to expect to feel sh!te all the way through then?

Not everyone does! Some women have unbelievably easy pregnancies, and others feel !!!!!! all the time. Unfortunately I happen to fall into the latter category.

You can sometimes get a 'glow' from throwing up or from being breathless due to your baby kicking your ribs though :rotfl:

    Some people are so silly.

My cats are going to be scared of the baby at first I think. I can imagine wide eyes and ears back when he screams :rotfl: They aren't allowed in bedrooms anyway, so no chance of 'smothering' but to be fair I've never heard of this happening.

My OH cleans the cat litter box out, but otherwise we haven't done anything differently. They certainly won't be going anywhere just because we're having a baby. The idea is ridiculous. Same as letting agents thinking you're just going to rehome your pets because some stuffy landlord doesn't like animals. I'd never rehome my pets - they are family.

I have the malm set too hehe, we were thinking of getting the thin set of drawers for babies stuff.

Waterbaby - really feel for you, hope you aren't suffering too much.

I don't think there is any need for people to get rid of pets but I am still worried about my Mum's cats as they are extremely affectionate and like to lie practically on your face lol.

People just seem to think I am going to pop at any minute now but I don't think my bump is as big as i thought would be at this stage.

I am sorry to say Digital that I am prob one of those people with an easy pregnancy. Have felt pretty good most the way through and haven't even reached the tired stage yet! I do have my bad nights sleep and things though so not all good.

I got that with #1 about my dog. I used to say if she doesn't settle, I rid of her, but I'm not sure the dog's home takes babies.
i'm expecting comments like that from family members about my dog. she was here first and she's going nowhere! unless her farts carry on at the same strength that they have been for the last few days!

I have just got a puppy, she is 13 weeks old...and farting like a drayhorse:eek:

Do I need one of these
