    by using a chair etc.
id take the whole pane out if its frame. the weakest point.

No you wouldn't......Laminated glass is 2 layers of glass seperated by a plastic membrane, when you've broken the inside pane the membrane makes it very, very difficult to break the outer pane and even when you do crack the outside pane the membrane holds it all together making it a hell of a job..

If the unit is made up of 2 laminated panes you would never get out, even with one its hard as f**k..
Ive measured up wrong in the past and skipped the glass, even with a hammer its almost impossible thats why laminated glass is often used in shop fronts....

You can break 4mm toughend units with any small pointed objects such as a screw, nail etc if you push it in the right place but laminated is a totally different animal...;)

    sorry but youre wrong.
car windscreens are very tough. but you can kick them out with your feet. from the inside.

and you would get the strength if the car was on bloody fire!
    Get some gorm.

lol, I agree you can kick a car windscreen out provided its not been bonded in ,but you've got more chance of taking a dump in the Queens handbag than knocking out a laminated unit from a door especially if its a wooden door and the units bedded on a Buytl tape..

Sorry Ormus I don't agree , guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one...

I've slammed shovels against lam units in the skip with all my force, and they still don't break up in one go. Bloody hard work, just stack them neatly I say! (i digress)

    thanks for the comments guys..

i measured the glass today including the thickness

    1800x 370mm and 1inch thick

i have gone to a glass merchant who has ordered me a replacement glass which will be toughened not laminated for £37 including VAT

he said the nearest thickness they do is 28mm which he has ordered.

If your having toughened and you units were closer to an inch you probably wanted 4:16:4. He probably hasn't got his toughened yet (glass merchant) so ring him up and ask for 16mm spacer bar.
Think this is one of those times mates rates/favours hasn't paid off, esp with the running around!

16mm spacer bar what does that mean ?

Does that mean the space between the glass?

    Yes, 4mm glass - 16mm spacer bar - 4mm glass.........
