the guy who sold me the doors and glass said he never said it was safety glass, he said that it was laminated glass. (would the stamp that rubs off that has BS6206, mean it is laminated?)

Also he said that he could get me a replacement laminated glass which he said would be fine

i obviously don't agree and it did anger me when someone who is a fitter and should know the rules is trying to get me to buy something that is against regulations and unsafe?

When I buy toughened it has the manufacturers stamp on it. When I buy laminated it has the glaziers own stamp on it. Easy way to tell is to have a go at cracking that pane up a bit more now you have photos of how it was. If it sticks and the glass doesn't fall out/down its laminated.

BTW as leveller points out, it would be unusual, but as far as I know using laminated is fine, it's just heavier

it has a stamp on it which says premier and bs6206. can anyone tell me what bs6206 means?

the glass is very heavy but i apparently it is against regulations of it is not safety glass or is laminated classed as safety?

the glass stamp says it is bs6202 and Lam B and has the name premier glass and glazing ltd stamped on it

i take it this means it is safety glass laminated B and is ok to use in a critical area? or am i wrong

yes. bs6202 is the bs standard for flat glass in domestic properties.
not sure what the B stands for, it maybe the plastic sheet method of making laminated glass.

the other method is resin filled.

    apparently A, B and C

A being the highest standard of safety glass

so i am ok to keep my unbroken glass and just get the cracked one replaced considering it is BS6202 and is laminated B?

Yes, just replace the broken one.You may have to replace it with a laminated unit as the rebates that the unit sits in will be made with a specific width for the extra width of a laminated unit, if you fitted a 4 mm unit the beads won't fit properly.

It will cost a fair bit more than a 4mm toughend unit so be prepared to get your wallet out...

Its unusual to have a laminated unit in a dwelling these days, tend to be shop fronts as they are harder for tealeaves to break in..

Personally I'm not a fan of Lam units in houses, if there was a fire you could break a 4mm toughend unit and get out but you won't get out through a laminated units.Always leave they key near the doors or in the lock so you can easily in case of fire......
