Does your postie run out of delivery slips?

I've recently bought an clothing item off Ebay and paid First Class Recorded for it. I expected it to arrive within two-three days but no sign of it after three days of it supposedly being sent.
I contacted the seller and they gave me the tracking number as well as a reason for the item not showing up. They said that I should contact the local sorting office as the postie may have ran out of the "we tried to deliver but you weren't in" slips and taken it there!
That sounds a bit like they were trying to fob me off. I have been in every day since the item was posted and nothing has arrived. I have received my parcels (from Ebay and Play.com) but no clothing item. I checked the feedback (after I had paid etc) and some of it does relate to non delivery.. Grr.
The item is currently being "progressed through the network" according to RM.
It is too late for me to use the item now as it was for a night out and the night out was last night! I was humiliated to go out in a non-themed item just because the item hadn't arrived. I have opened a case to get my money refunded.
So.. does your postie ever run out of the red slips? Or is it an urban myth? :rotfl:

Hi There, have you put the tracking number into the Royal Mail site to see what has happened.
And yes I have known the postie not s to leave you a note it has happened to me several times. Then when checking the sorting office they have had it there. The Royal mail will never admit that this happens, but it does.Lifes a !!!!! and then you marry one:D0 -
The Royal Mail tracking number system is next to useless.
I received a parcel with a tracking number 2 months ago. According to the the Royal Mail it is still being progressed through their delivery network!0 -
I've had that for about a week. I don't want to trek all the way to the sorting office to be told "no it is not here."
I just want the refund and hope that the item will be sent back to the seller at some point.
Thank you for the replies xCompetition Wins:

I never get through and I'm on PAYG so can't afford to keep ringing.
I had wanted the clothing item for yesterday and now I have no need for it. I would rather just have the refund.Competition Wins:

You may have a problem getting a refund as the seller can prove it has been sent. He is just awaiting it to say delivered. You need to get onto the post office sorting office. If it is there they may ask for an alternative delivery date if delivery has been attemted once. If it is still in the system you will have to wait for it to be delivered, as you do not want the problem of the seller asking for either your money or the goods back.Lifes a !!!!! and then you marry one:D0 -
if it tracks as progressing then its unlikely to be at the delivery office
if you needed the item quickly then you should have paid for Special delivery
the seller has done nothing wrong here0 -

Wrong, if the seller can not prove it have been delivered the buyer can get a refund, just open an INR claim in paypal (assuming that is how you paid)0 -
Recorded is only standard mail so is not a guaranteed service. However if at the end of the 10 day dispute the item does not track to showing as delivered to you then you will get a refund. If it does track to you in that time you will lose the claim.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
