Second vote for the Renault - Laguna estate. I'd recommend at least trying one on a test drive.

We looked long and hard at the Octavia, but after a lot of test drives, found we preferred the Renault - the Octavia seemed not to have as clear a view to the rear, due to the rear door pillars. We've been absolutely delighted with our Laguna, and had no problems to date, but one thing we picked up when researching is you need to go for a post 2004 model if you're considering one, as earlier models had problems.

    I want to add another +1 to this - I have a 2007 (07) 2.0 16V petrol and it's spot on. Hatch like, but it's great.

So much comfort and kit for the money - you'd have my 23k mile example for about £4600.

Wouldn't be my choice of engine but the Octavia is a solid machine with any engine and that's a good price.
