How does this work?

I just bought (yesterday) a Wildfire and a one month SIM that includes 100 mins 3000 texts and 1gb data.

I just checked my 3 account on my phone and I have used 0 mins sent 0 texts I have over 1gb of data left, but I have spent 10p

What on? I haven't downloaded any apps, I've not even read the manual yet (all 188 pages).

I will be going into the 3 shop tomorrow but just wondered if there's something I'm missing?

I've turned the darn thing off in case I wake up tomorrow having spent £100!

    Voicemail?
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

voicemail is included in the minutes you have (am with 3) any 0845/service numbers called? Otherwise, did you at all call 3 mobile? you get up to 20 minutes free to call them per month afterwhich they do charge you by the minute. At least this is how it is on my contract.

If you go to the online 3 services on your handset you should be able to access your bill and maybe get some more info, go to 3 services, then your account and then to check your bill.
  • I've never been on 3 so don't know if this is it but when I started my contract with Orange I had plenty of inclusive minutes and texts (far too many to go over) and hadn't checked by bill before it came out of my bank account. When it came out it was about £10 more than I was expecting (well, actually 15 quid because I didn't realise they added VAT onto the price you agree to), but anyway I then checked my bill (online of course because they charge you another quid or two for an itemised paper bill) and the !!!!!!!s had charged me 0.01p for every message delivery report, which over a month added up to a tenner! They delivery reports were automatically set as on when I got my phone, it isn't even as if I wanted the annoying bloody things!

Hi, thanks for all your answers.

I've only made one call (to a landline) I've only sent 3 x texts and received about 20 (mostly Twitter).

    It's a mystery.

Still, at least if they can't answer to my satisfaction, I only have to give them 30 days notice.

I'll call them this morning and see that they say.

    Hi Jennie,

I have no bills, only current usage. I have:

    Still to use this month
    Voice minutes 116
    Internet (Mbs) 1,179
    Texts 3,487

Then is says "Since your last bill you've spent £0.10."

I'm going to call them now. I'll let you know what they say.

    I know it's only 10p, but if it's 10p a day, that's an extra £3 a month!

OK, it would seem that the 3000 texts I have a month don't include to short numbers and the one I sent to Twitter to set up cost me 10p.

The irony is, that I doubt I sent 3000 texts in the whole of last year when I was with o2.

Oh well, they get their pound of flesh in the end I suppose.

  • A few years ago my wife took up a deal from 3 Mobile, 2000 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. This included a Nokia 6500 handset. I had a contract for a year with 3 Mobile when they first started and had no problems so she signed up for an 18 month contract.

We like on the outskirts of London and she works in the City so signal strength has never ever been a problem, until she was with 3. No signal, calls dropping were the norm. She mananged to use, if lucky, 10% or her call allocation. She had to get another network contract.

Signal problems seem to be the norm for 3 Mobile users, worse now since they shut down the Orange 2G. The call plan offers are great but sadly no good if you have no signal. There are an terrific amount of complaints on various forums but I am sure there are those who are in range of a transmitter, in fact according to 3 there is an aerial/transmitter base two streets away from our home!!!:rotfl:

I work within a spit of Selfridges on Oxford Street so no problem signal wise there. I live 40 miles further east. I do only get one bar in my front room, but don't use my mobile when I'm at home anyway and I still seem to receive texts there OK.

    We shall see.

Your so lucky! I live in London and find the parts of it I visit very hard to get a signal and I'm with 3. I should add it got a lot harder to get a signal when my Nokia handset was replaced with an LG viewty model. Maybe I just need to visit Selfridges more often....(this idea has previously not been a good one as it results in me spending money so I have a self imposed ban on the area!)

Ah, forgot about asking about the short numbered texts- none are included. I think thats the way for any plan but if its not can you let me know? I never enter all those competitions because the texts are not free (even though many they say they are) if it has been different for you with another network provider please say who! :)

I used to be able to text with my o2 inclusive texts on PAYG. I don't remember being charged for my Twitter set-up text.

    I might be wrong though.

What they should do is just charge you 4 texts for a short number.
