    i would contact the police.

the bank transfer will be there to see (and they could easy trace that).
the add for the car will be more evidence

they may be constantly pulling this scam so not reporting it could lead to more innocent people being ripped off..

Why would someone pull a scam with a bank account and phone number easily tracable to them?

Unless they are Britains Dumbest Criminals.
  • Its traceable but problem is I doubt police want to get involved bank wont give there address out I would expect. so they can even sue them in small claims court without a address, what they have done is fraud, the potential buyer was far too trusting, I know I told them they were foolish

IIs there a free or cheap way of finding out where they live via landline

The only way find the name from a number (what is called reverse search) is to find someone with a hacked copy of UK Info Disk.
  • Argh thats the disc I remember that years ago

i dont see why you keep saying the police wont get involved?

fraud, obtaining money by deception, theft.. surely it falls under one of them and the police will investigate.

am always reading lately about people being prosecuted for online fraud, taking money for items on ebay that they have no intention of selling etc..
  • Because I have reported crime before and the Police were very slow, I discovered 23 to 4 criminals nicking council equipment in a yard 45 minutes it took the police to come at that was on a week day

As said on tv last night police have different priorities it was on that one show last night some major fraud and p;ice said to this guy that had evidence that he will be done for wasting police time if he continues

Its not me that got conned I told them to go to the police but never do

I have told them to give this con merchant a ultimatum pay back or or to poloce but that also isnt done believe me I tried

I hate scammers and I wouldn't let them get off

Basically money was paid for a deposit for a car via bank account, the so called owner pulled out and gave all sorts of phoney excuses, he said he would pay half money back which was happy about either of course thats another load of crap.
If the owner pulled out, why would the buyer be happy with him giving only half back anyway?

Maybe because they know that Britains finest will be far too busy polishing the lenses on speed cameras and recording crime for statistical purposes than to actually investigate anything that requires any effort on their part.

So why are you involved? - It's not you letting them off is it ?

If your friend doesn't want to go to the police then there is little you can do - regardless of who you hate.

Just as a footnote - IF you find the person - what are you going to do ?
