I know someone who got conned recently and we have know way of tracing the person other than bank account and mobile/landline number

Is there a free or cheap way of finding out where they live via landline

I have tracked the phone number to a small suburb

Thanks

I hope not, I wouldn't like to think someone could track me down with such flimsy details..

The police are probably your best bet.

What kind of 'con' are we talking about here? If it's any type of substantive Fraud then I'd say the Police probably would be interested and whilst they probably wouldn't do a telephone trace on the number (They take far too long and are generally only for serious crime), they will have intelligence systems that they can use to search for the number, which may well come back to the owner.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Ring it, tell them you're from BT and are following up on a line fault report, then ask them to verify their address for security purposes. It might work if you're confident!

Google the phone number, it may just come up.
  • Its not a huge amount of money

Basically money was paid for a deposit for a car via bank account, the so called owner pulled out and gave all sorts of phoney excuses, he said he would pay half money back which was happy about either of course thats another load of crap

I wont let him get off I suspect its an nice little earner

Its not me that he conned

They been trying to pretend to be soeone else to ring him on mobile. He was stupid enough tonight to ring back asking who they were on landline until tonight all we had was mobile and vague area where they lived

He doesn't like in a big area and could be lucky to drive and see the car, it was on autotrader last week but has got pulled
