Cost per hour to run a boiler

Hi, we have just had a new boiler fitted, middle of November.
It's a Rhino. C120 combi boiler, that runs on oil. It's used 924 litres in a month!

How many litres per hour should it burn. ( I read in another post, aprrox 1 litre per hour ? )

The tank was filled up on the 31/12/10.

It's been filled up again today, 02/02/11.

It's used 924 litres in a month!

Sorry it will depend on what size of house you have, whether its well insulated or not and also how long you have it firing during the day - no quick fix answers. Also did someone pinch some of your oil!
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

Hi Susank, thanks. - The old boiler, before it was taken out - the 1200 litre tank was filled every 3 months. Heating is on between 8-12 hours a day on the low setting. We have 7 radiators. Large 3 bedroom farmers cottage.

It does need better insulation, but 30 litres a day. There must be a leak or a thief. We can't see how anyone could burn that much. We based it on a litre an hour, and even then, 700 in December was to much.

December's tank fill was 700 litres. 2nd Feb tank fill 924 litres.

Is there something I could buy that would measure our litres per hour daily useage, regardless of a leak or thief.

Your consumption has roughly doubled then-but that is hardly surprising running it up to 12 hours a day during the coldest December since records began!

The old farmers cottage doesn't hold heat well at all. I've got a library of medical problems....so my heating habits haven't changed.

September/October and November were as cold to me as it is now. The heating was on the same amount and times with the old boiler and that didn't need a refill once a month.

Is it even possible to use 30 litres a day, having the heating on up to 12 hours ?

    This is the boiler http://www.rhinooilboilers.com/prod4.htm

But December was exceptionally cold. It doesn't matter that the CH temp was at the same setting for the same no. of hours. In order to raise the temp to the required level from the much lower ambient temp in December, your boiler will have had to work much harder and burn much more oil.

Thats a lot of oil, i put 500 litres in my tank on 23rd December and it should last me till about march/april, hopefully by which time i can switch the heating off for the summer.
Also should add i tend to only switch it on late afternoon and its usually off by 9ish.

This appears to be a boiler that uses old used motor oils and is SEDBUK Band C which is lowish efficiency(82% to 86%) for a new boiler.

It would not be possible to use 924 litres(10,000kWh) in a month with a conventional oil CH system, but no idea with your oil/boiler and the website is pretty useless as it provides no technical detail.

How much do you pay for this oil?
  • sorry I do a lot of oil and Ive never heard of them, something seems very odd

I've passed their premises a few times when on my visits west and, I agree, their website is a tad vague, I did however find these details>>>>>>
