im pretty lucky I get very few of these calls, last one I had was a few weeks ago, a very heavily accented woman whos companys software had detected malware or whatever it is in my computer. I said 'How the bl**dy hell have you found that out? my computer isnt even connected to the internet! How have you obtained access? are you trying to tell me you've had someone break into my house to plant some sort of bug that sends you information?? . . . ' I had more but she hung up on me :(

  • With older networks, the termination of a call required both parties to replace their handsets. So if you left your handset off the hook immediately after a sales/prank call it'd tie up their own phoneline for as long as it took to get the line disconnected remotely.

Just don't answer International calls. Simple really

And what about those of us that have family living abroad?

They silent call you, this is a robot which logs the times you answer so they know you are usually in and when to pester, sneaky pigs...

Now I know lots of Indian men and I have never met one with and English name yet.

I'm half Indian and my brother (also half Indian) is called Dave, as is my full Indian uncle. Believe it or not, there are many Indians with "English" names.

Not that I think they'd tell you their correct name.
i before e, except when you run a feisty heist on a weird beige foreign neighbour
  • I was plagued by these calls, every other day for about 2 weeks always around 4:30. I was polite, no I wasn't interested, but after 1 week of Was I ....., was I a relative of...... my answer now is "no I'm the burglar", this is followed by stunned silence and a click. Result no more calls.

  • Try telling them you were burgled and they took your computer and you can't afford a new one. Put on a performance and sob story to get them on a guilt trip, say how your house is being repossesed etc.

I bought Truecall a couple of months ago. I have not had a single unwanted call since, either UK based or foregin. I used to get around 2 per week. Best £90 I've recently spent ;)
