Nuisance calls from "Householder Surveys"

Sorry for dragging up this old thread, but I've been digging and have followed a trail back to a company in Watford who I dropped a Data Subject Access Request on. This is their reply:
For what it's worth, I'm going to write to them and see what they say.

Just had a call from Sandra Williams from House Holders - she cold barely pronounce her own name or the company she works for so I asked her to spell them................... when i asked where she had my number from she hung up:mad: Luckily we don't get many calls.Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Okay... update on this one.
Came home to a DHL document pack and this was enclosed:
Fingers crossed the calls now stop.

I really don't understand why people get so worked up over these (nuisance) calls !
I have a 'phone with caller display and an answer machine. If I don't recognise the name/number on the display when it rings (or Withheld or International), I just don't answer it. If it is a genuine caller, they will leave a message. If it is a cold call they ALWAYS hang up.
No problem.............0 -
I wouldn't say I was particularly worked up, but having asked to be removed from the list, they continued to call which I felt was a bit cheeky.
I also have caller display, and generally have it set to only ring if the number is in the contact list which stops a lot of it. Nevertheless, when this is off I do get the odd call or two.43580 -

Very impressed at the results you have achieved with the Data Subject Access request (also previously unaware that this route could be used to track down the miscreants who sell data that are the basis of these unwelcome calls), especially as the route source of call misery was an Indian call centre carrying out the usual "householder survey" scam attempt to evade TPS controls.
I hope you will be also making a complaint about the UK company that bought the data from the Indian call centre making these illegal fake market research calls to the Information Commissioner using the online forms at https://www.ico.gov.uk naming and shaming the UK company that was effectively paying for them to take place.0 -
If you do answer the nuisance calls and it’s NOT an automated message, be polite to the agent, talk to him/her. Remember they are on commission, so waste their time. State you are interested in their SCAM products. Give them false info. If you can arrange a rep to visit, do it at a local caf! and don’t turn up. I think you get the idea. This is probably where lying would be acceptable even if it’s not in your nature.0

My mum who is 75+ has been plagued with nuisance calls for years, and has now got the point where she wont answer her land line until they start to leave a message and she knows who is calling.
I registered her number with the TPS service which helped a lot at first, then it seemed they were not stopping any calls, so tried to re-register thinking it may be for just 1 year at a time, but was told the number was already registered.
My mum who normally has her wits about her has 3 answers for them;
1. Mrs ..... is not in at the moment, I'm her carer.
Caller usually hangs up.
2. My family deal with all my matters.
Caller usually hangs up.
3. Sorry I'm deaf and cant hear you very well, please write to
me.
Caller usually hangs up.
However, just yesterday she received a call from her mobile supplier (so they said) she tried all three of the above to the caller who would not let her off the phone (I know she could have just hung up herself) and eventually after 30 mins had to be very firm and told them she was hanging up now.
So now I am so angry as they spoke about saving her money, changing tariff, sending out a free dongle for internet and if she didn't want it could send it back within 14 days, and it would only be for 2 years.
Alarm bells are ringing for me.
This to me was a definate nuisence call.
Anything I can do about it?Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay0
