They will if you don't cancel the search on confused or whoever you used. It is performed annually like you agreed. Mine are all soft searches which is fine and causes no credit file issues.
Damn...
I never read all the small print
It could have said i agree to pay £50 a month subscription in there and i wouldnt have known:eek:0 -

Yes, Dave. Got a reply on 7th April. (Two weeks, not two days, after my first email to them!)
I was told the following...I write today to inform you that I have looked into the details provided and can confirm that Aviva performed searches against your credit file due to quotes being undertaken on a comparison web site where Aviva underwrites products, such as the RAC.
The quotes were completed via the comparison website Money Supermarket.
When using this type of site their terms and conditions do state that credit searches may be carried out by the company or their underwriters at quotation stage, prior to purchase for underwriting purposes. These terms and conditions can be viewed in more depth via their websites.
Due to the searching of credit files being clearly mentioned on the comparison sites I will be unable to delete these searches from your credit file as they have been authorised by yourself, when completing the above mentioned quotation.
Please be aware that unless you manually un-subscribe from these sites they can continue to use your data, normally this is around the time of your renewal date to show that they have companies who may be able to offer you a lower premium.
So are they saying that it is correct?
Is this true?
_Why_ do they do a credit search when simply asking for a quote for insurance?
Why is it only Aviva who do this and not all the other scores of companies who quote via these sites?
I understand I can "unsubscribe" in the future. But does this mean that if I ever do a price comparison again (which, of course, I'd do every year when renewing car insurance and most years when renewing home insurance) I'll get another footprint?0 -

Hello all,
I have been researching myself into this issue and have especially signed up to this website, in order for me to share my experience with you all.
I recently obtained my credit report using checkmyfile.com and have obtained a Muti Agency Report which includes Experian, Call Credit and Equifax. I noticed credit searches were carried out by Aviva Insurance Limited and other third party insurances. I have had seven searches carried out in total and I believe the reason for this was through using price comparison websites such as confused.com, gocompare.com, moneysupermarket.com and comparethemarket.com.
I was not happy with this, as i do not recall making these searches. Therefore, I decided to get to the bottom of this. I started with contacting all the price comparison websites via email and requested for my details to be removed immediately. I had a response in a few days and it was pointed out to me that it states in their terms & conditions that credit searches would be made, in order to receive the best possible quotes. However, my details were removed from their database.
Secondly I contacted Aviva Insurance limited in Norwich on 13th April 2012 and dicussed the issue with several members of staff, who were not helpful in resolving my issue. They informed me that they did not have my details on their systems and that it could be the possibilty of using price comparison websites. I also contacted the credit report agency for advice, but they advised me the call up Aviva directly to resolve this issue. I was not getting anywhere with these companies.
Lastly i decided to call the Financial Ombudsmen on 16th April 2012 and i explained my issue to them. They were happy to complain to Aviva on my behalf and today i have had a response from a nice lady who works for Aviva who has confirmed in writing, email and phone that she will contact the credit agencies in order to remove these searches from my report. I can confirm this has been done once it goes through.
Look out for an update and please forgive me for the long post, as i am a newbie

Thanks Sharif.
What argument did you use with the ombudsman / did the ombudsman use with Aviva that they should be removed?
Maybe the Aviva rep on here (Dave) could comment on this. Does this mean that everyone's should be removed?0 -
Sorry to butt in on the conversation, but after reading this thread it definitely seems like one for Watchdog. Has anyone reported it on their website, by any chance?Oh, you wee bazza!0

I had a responce from Dave the Aviva rep on here saying he has passed my email on, & so far only had a automatic responce:
Thank you for contacting us regarding the credit searches carried out by Aviva, please accept my apologies for the delayed response.
Using the information provided in your email I will investigate this matter further for you and hope to have a satisfactory reply within the next 7-10 working days.
If there is anything I can do further to help with this matter in the mean time please do not hesitate to contact me again, by return of email.
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Thwaites

So just got to wait and see what they say

Yes this would be good if if Dave (rep) could come back to this thread and confirm these searches should be removed and which way do we go about it, As some of us seem to be getting nowhere with this!
P.s I have also mentioned this to other people which after checking have these credit searches on there reports made by AvivaWales for ever.....:beer:0
