BBQ on New Years Eve Ideas needed

Hi all
We have decided that this NYE we will have a BBQ for a change.
Come snow or not we are doing one LOL (Hope it does snow):j

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas for different BBQ style foods, other than the typical summer repices.

And maybe decoration ideas.
Thanks

  • Hi, I think thats a lovely idea.:D

How about letting the children decorate old glass jars with glass paint and pop tea lights into them? If you need a handle so it can hang from a tree/hook just loop string around the edge and tie a loop over.
Even plain glass jars with tealights look lovely around the doorway if you're expecting guests to arrive.
Don't forget to have extra long matches or something similar to light them with though.

How about giving everyone a wheat or rice bag or a new hot water bottle cover for christmas so they can use it on New Years Eve. Beg and borrow blankets so you can sit on them (nothing worse than having a chilly behind on a cold night  )

See if you can borrow a chimenea from someone (not many people are going to be using it on New years eve), they make it lovely and cosy and you can pop potatoes in there to cook too.

As for food, definitely jacket spuds and perhaps spicey food. I'll have a look in my bbq books later and pop back on.

If you approve of fireworks, how about buying some/one.

Hope you have a great time.
  • Sounds like a great idea, hope you all have fun.

I would make up lots of skewered marshmallows to lightly 'toast' on the BBQ.
...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

I have a recipe from a book I got from the Puffin club as a child called 'Cooking is a Game You Can Eat' for BBQ baked beans:-

For each large can beans (not the normal size those really big ones)
Fry a chopped onion in a little oil until soft, add 1 tbsp golden syrup, 1 tbsp tomato ketchup, 1 tsp mustard powder, 1 tsp worcestershire sauce and mix together. Add the beans to the pan and heat through until warm - mmm lovely.

I would serve these with jacket spuds, sausages and some nice chicken skewers. Soup is a great idea to kick it all off, and bbq marshmallows are great. You could also throw some bananas in their skins on when the heat dies down - they are lovely as they go a big soggy - even nicer if you split the skin before you put them on and add a chunk of choc, which melts in!
