I have done anti malware scan, avast scan and AVG scan which didn't detect any viruses,

cant believe no one has noticed this, you need to get rid of either AVG or Avast (i suggest getting rid of AVG - remember to use the AVG removal tool) as having 2 anti virus's running at the same time can (and usually will) cause conflicts!

other than this do a system restore to about 1-2 weeks ago not just the last restore point
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

first off, restart in Safe Mode With Networking. Then try to download and run Hitman Pro. Save it to desktop, then hold down left Ctrl key while you double-click to open it. Let it scan and bin all it finds. This may be the best inroad into the problem...sounds like it may be a rootkit....

the download box is blue, below the hitman title..

Hi I have followed your guidance and it would not let me save it to the desktop, everytime I got to the stage when it was initinalizing the agreement box would dissapear and nothing would happen no icon would appear on my desktop.:(

  • If theres nothing on the system that you need then the system restore would be the easiest way.
If its XP/SOME Vista systems they require DVD drives. If its SOME Vista and Windows 7 then its easy to do.
On startup tap F8 untill system menu appears and select repair computer. Once its loaded up (might have to choose language settings and enter user name and password) at the bottom there will be Toshiba Recovery so select that and the system will load the Toshiba Recovery Partition.

Hi Thanks for the tip. I did as you suggested but the repair computer option didn't appear, although several other options did.

I tried the last known good configuration and that also didn't respond.

If the fan is on rather a lot during normal use then CPU heatsink blocked with fluff it is then...

Seen too many home ones over 12 months old with blocked up heatsinks to think its likely to be anything else. Changed the hinges on a 13 month old Advent Roma 1000 this week and as you have to do a full stripdown of the laptop, I checked the heatsink and sure enough it was blocked solid. Gave the owner her laptop back and a plastic bag with the evidence in. Apparently its running a lot quicker now....:D

    How do I do this?

If you can manage to download and run it, post a hijackthis log

Try safe mode with networking, wired to a router if you can't get it to run in normal mode

If I were you I'd contact Toshiba and obtain the installation DVD or CD that came with the laptop and do a clean install. If it still doesn't work normally then you're looking at some sort of hardware problem which either Toshiba or PCWorld etc. should be able to quote you for.

  • I have uninstalled AVG and managed to get to the system restore page but it says no restore points have been created on my computer. It then says to create a restore point open system protection. when I click on system protection a system prperties pop up box appears and has the automatic restore point as Local disk (c) system, when I highlight it and click ok nothing happens.

At the side of 'Local disk (c) system' does it say it's turned on or off.

I'd need to know the model number to find out if its something you can do by taking a cover off or it needs the base of the laptop removing.
