  • We have had to cancel a Nile cruise from Luxor, as recommended on the FCO web site. Our travel insurance is via a NatWest Advantage Gold account. NatWest is refusing to pay our loss as the FCO advice is to avoid 'all but essential travel'. NatWest insist that the FCO announcement needs to cover 'all travel'.

Presumably NatWerst believe that travel to Egypt is essential!

    GarryJohnson,

who actually cancelled the trip? if it was the tour operator, then they should refund you the cost.

Who was it booked through and when was it for?

  • Hi all,
Here is probably a stupid question, but I cant seem to find the answer anywhere....
If Thomson cancel my holiday to Egypt because of the troubles.

    a)Do I get a full refund?
b)Do I have to take alternative holiday that is offered?
    c)Loose my full £2k

    Mnay thanks x

I have no travel insurence :-(

    Sirmaggie,

If it is Thomson that cancel your holiday, then they will generally offer you an alternavive holiday, however ultimately you will, if you require, get a full refund. What Thomson did with Tunisia was offer a further discount if you re-booked an alternative holiday with them, rather than cancel. at least this way they still got your holiday booking.

  • Wow, That was a fast reply, many thanks. That info is very helpful and im sure it will be to everyone else that reads this page.

If they say I can go, I will def be going. Otherwise, its a full refund for me and off to my brothers in Spain for a week, money back will pay off the credit card, with a few quid spare to buy a beer or two :-)

    Tahnks again x

Demand for the Canary Islands may increase with fewer 'bargains' around, so those that are waiting may need to book shortly.

  • The new Sensatori Hotel in sharm, March 27th, thats if it finished being built by then!

    Sirmaggie,

at present, dont bank on a free cancellation. Sharm has been relatively unaffected at present, and holidays have been operating as normal. However, there is still a few weeks to go before the departure date, and i guess that if FCO advise against travel to Sharm, then the operators will only offer free cancellations at shortish notice (maybe within 7 days). Other than that, they may offer FOC transfers, with just any difference in price being paid (both ways).

    Regards

  • I'm due to be travelling to Sharm in 3 weeks time for my first wedding anniversary. I have to say I'm feeling very uneasy about it. Take it there is no way we can change our holiday without being penalised. I've checked my travel insurance and I'm not covered.

    Thanks.
