I would say that more than a pound would warrant a star or two knocked off. Not a low mark - but without a refund, I would mark someone down and it's obvious some other buyers think the same, so it's worth sellers making sure that their prices are as accurate as possible, because they have more control over them than their buyers do. It's OK to make a mistake, but better to acknowledge that mistake and adjust rather than arrogantly assuming that's the way to carry on.
I would tend to agree except that things seem to have changed a lot over the last few years and not all sellers may be aware of that.
Anyone coming here at the time I first joined and complaining about p&p would have been very firmly told that they bid on a total price including p&p and to only bid up to a value where they are happy with the total cost.
Fast forward a few years and attitudes have changed considerably - presumably people take their lead from ebay who now seem to take more of an interest in absurd p&p fees. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
There are absurd charges, then there's chasing someone for a quid or so. Equally absurd.0

Absurd = postage at cost?I would tend to agree except that things seem to have changed a lot over the last few years and not all sellers may be aware of that.

Absurd = making your buyers happy?
Absurd = not expecting people to make a judgement on something which may be an unknown variable at the time they order (exact cost to post an item)?
Not sure I follow you.
It's not up to us to set the rules as sellers - it's up to us to cater to what our buyers want. Most successful businesses do just that."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Evidently not.
The 'absurd' I was referring to were the grossly inflated p&p charges that used to be seen quite frequently a while back. It's not up to us to set the rules as sellers - it's up to us to cater to what our buyers want. Most successful businesses do just that.
Well, sellers have to do that now, it seems, as fleabay have finally got their act together.
At one time people could charge ridiculous p&p and anyone who complained would be told, effectively, 'like it or lump it'.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
You dont need to buy it if you dont like the postage costs and its up to the buyer to check feedback before they buy so really its not just the seller at fault, the buyer should check feedback and that will give you an idea about postage costs being ok or over the top.0

I guess your time must be free. For me to post something at the post office it involves a 2 mile round trip and takes up around 1/2 hr of my time.
I charge my labour out at £30/hr.....
And that is post or packing how exactly?
This is the problem, as sellers we can justify our charges all we want on here I can insist people pay foro my parking meters for instance ..but all that happens is thery pay up if they want our goods badly enough and they hammer our stars so we lose our TRS discounts and eventualy lose our business.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. So i placed my bid which was a low bid and i won the item, .........................................................................................................................so he made £1.17 out of me
.
Is this for real, just over a quid and you're asking what you should do even though you got a bargain?0 -

Well for a start, Ebay say you can add a "reasonable amount" for covering additional costs.
And as to the OP, he was "guessing" at the cost of packing. I know the cost of packaging for every laptop I send and its just short of £2. Many people whining about postage costs seem to think that packaging is free and that if you drive to the post office, your car uses no fuel either.
In my case if the postage of an item is £10, it costs me another £2.40 in associated costs. But if I charge £12.50 people like the OP whinge and whine because the Royal Mail label says £10.0
