What does it mean when there are LOADS of houses in one area up for sale?

Hello!

I'm looking for a house in London and about 90% of the houses I've found are on sale in Abbey Wood, Thamesmead and Plumstead.

I've looked around google for the 411 on these areas but I can't find any conclusive info.

My guess would be that the area is undesirable for some reason or another and this is why people are selling up?

hi, well i used to live near those areas 20 yrs ago they were pretty bad then, from what i have heard, from people i still know around that area, they have got worse..very rough and chavy sort of area..even though i used to drink around the pubs there 20 yrs ago, it was rough but it was ok because everybody sort of knew everybody, just good old fashioned rough pubs....thamesmead is a concrete jungle, abbey wood , well its abbey wood, and plumstead is 90% pakistani, nothing against them, just stating facts, it was only around 70% when i drank there, but there are some great pubs, or were great pubs....it all depends on what you are used to, if you like those sort of areas and like going to the rough pubs, you will love it as i did..good luck
Corduroy pillows are making headlines! Back home in London now after 27years wait! Duvet know it's Christmas, not original, it's a cover.

Probably not so much of a case of everyone putting their properties on the market, more of a case of not much in those areas selling. Everything new going on just adds to the 'property backlog'. In a rubbish market, people will be even fussier about buying into 'location'. Don't want to be stuck with something that won't sell later down the line.

Are you looking in SE London? I used to live in Eltham. Probably a better choice than the other areas you mentioned. Lee's also another possibility. Some dodgy bits, but better than the others you mentioned, and Blackheath's on your doorstep. Same for Lewisham - improved a lot since I lived in Blackheath. I also lived in Westcombe Park - doubt you'll get anything there if you're looking, but I loved it. Charlton's also okay if affordable.

Look up the areas on the new police crime maps site.

UGH! Sounds worse than where I'm living now (Harlesden - North West London)... I didn't think that was possible.

I can't think of anything worse than concrete jungles and not a good even mix of races or a tleast a high number of "professionals". And there's no tube! I am NOT buying there.

    Thanx for the advice

Ideally, I'm looking for a place no further than zone 3 with either tube or rail AND buses... Looks like this area is outta the question. t's a shame though, it was SOOOOOOO amazing-looking.
  • Come to north-east London! Check out Walthamstow. Fantastic street-market on the High Street. Great transport links; on the Victoria Line you can be at Oxford Circus in about 20 minutes and on the overground at Liverpool Street in about 30. Lots of really decent Victorian houses on quiet streets and an up-and-coming "village" where prices are creeping up and up.
  • I was going to say look in Walthamstow as well. I'm currently buying a victorian house on a quiet street (can't afford the village though). It's Zone 3 on a fast tube line and affordable for London.

Cheap though, you can get a London poscode for less than £100k

I actually find Highams Park (where I am now) cheaper than the nicer bits of Walthamstow sometimes. Both pretty good choices. Count me in for a third vote!

Is that something to be desired? (genuine question)
