Out of curiosity, how much do others pay for a service, both standard and major?

ETA - and what type of car do you have?

  • Whatever the parts cost, i can do it myself.
Depends on the car,and where you take it.

Out of curiosity, why didn't you return to your previous thread here with an update?

Because I didn't get my car back from the garage until today, and have only just come online. I'm now in the process of writing a reply actually.

Standard is £350 , major is £600 which is meaningless as you don't know which vehicle or which garage.

Strange that you asked another question before writing your reply!

Is it? Easier for me to start a new topic and leave it for people to reply while I go to my previous one and update, than to update then start a new one only to have to come back online and check it later!

MK3 Mondeo TDCi. £130 for normal service, £170 for a major.
  • I use a good specialist independent for my car, usually around £150 for (7 litres) oil change full inspection, check levels, remove clean and lubricate brakes, further work and parts extra.

Hilux pick up at Toyota dealer, intermediate service (7.5 litres oil and inspection) £170, major service every other year around £270.

It's finding that good honest trustworthy competent indy that's the hard part, once you do treat him with the reverence he deserves...he's a dying breed.
  • Just the cost of the parts and my own time...

Both Vectra B's serviced in last 2 weeks for just over £33 each all in.... Genuine VX Plugs Air/Pollen.. Bosch Oil Filters and 5 litres of Oil for both... Should be cheaper next time round as about to order 205litre drum of oil which will drop the cost... Waiting for a price for/if carlubes available in 205litre drum before I order.

2.4D Hilux costs around £35 a year to service.. All filters + the Oil...

    What does the vectra use?
    10/40 is £245 for 205 litres trade,but the 5/30 is £427 from VX.
Having said that, it's not much dearer buying it in 20l.
  • 10w40Semi... Yeh can get 205litres of it from VX for £235ish so knocking on the door of pound a litre ... It works out dearer than the Carlube stuff usually in 5litres so seeing what price the carlube stuff works out at... Then I'll see what the Oil supplier in work can do it at when I go back in Wednesday.

And your right not that much in it per litre between 20 and 205... Less than you'd expect I think...

Parts only- I get them at trade prices, and do myself. When I've been short of time and leave it in to the garage, I usually supply them with the parts as well. Can't remember it costing me more than £90!
