I'm wondering whether to get started or not.

For everything that's wrong with benefit systems, please see above.

Graham, sorry, but you actually make me feel ill. I often thought that I could feel sorry for you. Now I just think your bored and just want to argue all the time and upset people.
    Plan
    1) Get most competitive Lifetime Mortgage (Done)
    2) Make healthy savings, spend wisely (Doing)
    3) Ensure healthy pension fund - (Doing)
    4) Ensure house is nice, suitable, safe, and located - (Done)
    5) Keep everyone happy, healthy and entertained (Done, Doing, Going to do)

    Doesn't really bother me.

I wasn't even having a go at you.

Just stating, the benefits system has your family, as you say, using subsidised housing, by the taxpayer (me and you), and they therefore have no intentions of ever buying or moving on.

That, in my view is wrong, and shows everything wrong with the benefits system, trapping people, and encouraging people to never leave it, taking up a much needed home just because they can.

If that makes you feel ill, theres nothing I can do about it.

If that's not what you meant, fine, but I couldn't read it any other way.

You put my family into almost the same category as a NEET.

    My Dad owns a house
My sister did own a house, she left it with her bf over 10 years ago as the relationship ended. New relationship, and they have run pubs sucessfully between them for 30 years nearly
My other sister owned a leased pub with her now husband, like most others it failed recently.
My mom owned two leased pubs both failed recently.

They had ambition. The labour party let them down, they had no interest in buying a house as they had housing covered.

The labour party got so wrapped up in no boom or bust everyone brought into it.

The victims are MY family... they are not the CAUSE! Thank YOU!

    I didn't actually.

I said for everything thats wrong with the BENEFITS system, please see above.

Didn't mention problems with your family. Mentioned the problems the benefits system allows.

I'm all for social housing. What I'm against, is the benefits system which allows someone to continue living in social housing, way beyond their actual need, and discouraging them from providing for themselves.

Even MPs have stayed in social housing, saying "well it only costs me £200 a month, why would I move". You'd have to agree. But the benefits system is causing issues with that, as other people are really struggling, with no access to social housing, which has put massive strains on LHA which pays private rents.

For your information, I'd also be insulting my brother. He's also in this situation (much older than me). Kids have left home, but he aint moving, costs him £160 a month for a 3 bed home.

It isnt a right to have a choice, the decisions you make as you get older, put you in the position your in, everyone does have choice from day one, the opportunity is there for everyone, its as level a playing field as you can get in a western world.

Im not saying people working in lower paid jobs dont work hard.

But when they were at school they had choices to make,
when they left they had choices to make. Work or educate... etc, etc.

Making decisions lead to consequences what ever you decide.

Some students dont earn money until they are 22/23/24. then the lower paid have had at least 5 years on them earning.

God everything is so black and white for you Batchy.

Has it not occured to you that the human race comes in all sorts of abilities. Not everyone is an Einstein or has the potential to be.

I would like to think we live in a society where any form of work is rewarded.
Do you not think this country would cease to function if there were no people willing to be refuse collectors, hospital cleaners or kitchen porters to name but a few?
These people work damn hard, often for little reward. Should they not be entitled to buy a roof to go over their heads. And no it doesn't have to be a 5 bedroom mansion in Chelsea.

As for your comment regarding a level playing field, you couldn't be any further from the truth. This country has always had a wealth divide that promotes unequal opportunites and under a tory government this will never get better.

Err....no. They should have decent housing of course, but no, no-one has the "entitlement" to buy their own property.

That might seem harsh, but life is harsh.

Owner occupancy is at the highest level it has been in history of roughly 70%. That's quite a minority.
