Just want sports....

Hi all
I am a huge football fan and enjoy watching a match over weekends. I am with Virgin at the moment and have their full bundle (phone, internet and TV)
However, the channels and content that we currently get on TV is utter crap - yet the cost is phenomenal. I know that I should expect to pay for SkySports and have no issue with that, but am being ripped off with paying for the rest of the package (i.e. you can't get sports on its own).
Any advice on the best way around this? We're prepared to cancel TV altogether but just want to keep the sports channels which I like.
Should I just shop around with the other providers and look for the best deal? At the moment for the smallest internet package, and free weekend calls only plus the smallest TV option (and sports of course) we are paying close to £70 p/m.
Thanks

Consider either of the 2 options;
Option A
1) Landline and Internet with Talktalk will cost you 20 pounds and
2) Sky package with sports( excluding ESPN) should cost you 37.50
Total= 57.50
option B
Everything with sky for 37.50 but you might pay for installation.
And you can use quidco on both to get cashback.

If you have a good internet connection use www.liveonlinefooty.com I think it's £6 for two months. Plug your laptop into your TV and off you go!
I think it's just football though?0 -

On Freeview?

ETA : You can get it (if its started) on top up TV, but that's a monthly payment.

I don't mean they are free, of course, but they are available.

Been available for a year or so. You pay only month-to-month, no long term contract.
You'll need a freeview box with a card slot or a slot that can hold an adaptor into which a card can be fitted.0 -

The same channels with Sky (inc one variety pack which is the minimum) works out at £48.75 per month and you would need to sign a contract.0 -

I edited my post the same time as you posted this lol
I've just found all that info, but it's so expensive! £40 for the 3 sports channels is a LOT of money. I know you're not in contract, but there's nothing stopping people getting Sky or Virgin, getting TV, phone and Broadband on the cheapest settings and just asking for the Sports Chanels on the months they're wanted to be viewed.
That would actually work out cheaper, unless someone just wanted the sports channels on topuptv for a month or 2. But still, 2 months of sports for £80, it's so expensive!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

We had tv, phone and broadband with sky and when we had all the sports channels, we only paid about £60 a month for the lot, including all the variety packs ~ can't see it costing £48.75 just for 3 channels and one variety pack?
ETA : Just had a look and you're right! It works out best to have more with Sky than it does just for a few channels.
If you're getting tv and BB it can work out even cheaper, God knows how!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

The first variety pack is £19.50.......you can add the rest for only £1 a pack. BB is free with Sky if you have a phone and telly package.0
