removal men - do you tip?

thanks guys, your responses are appreciated. I would've always made sure that they'd be plenty of hot/cold drinks and food available, but I think that the general consensus is that a tip is in order. It's going to be a very expensive move - the fee alone to the company is going to be around £2.5k  . I guess an extra £10-£20 a head won't make much difference though!"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

Yes definately,.
We moved ourselves in January last year and it nearly killed us!
So when June came to move again we had two guys and their van and they were stars!
So yes we tipped them.0 -

...
etc
Generally, yes. £10 to £20 each.:T I obviously overlooked a few factors...!

Yes I do - but only if they have done a good job.
Last removal was great and the three men worked like trojans but were very careful too. Was a pleasure to tip them.
One before not so good - about 7 men crashing about, result being damaged walls and furniture. No tip was proferred.0 -
Yes - I am moving in March. The move will cost about £3K and I would expect to tip them £50 to share as they wish, because sometimes it is not all the same guys who move you out as move you in (IIYSWIM).I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

We did tip: about 10% (the cost of the move was about 1k including VAT and from memory I think we gave them 100 on top - but they packed for us as well so there were about 6 of them involved at one time or another - some for 2 full days, some for just a half day, and some physically shifting stuff while others were mainly driving or packing). Anyway, there was pretty clearly a hierarchy at work, so we gave it all to the senior guy in view of the others and let him decide how to split it. They seemed happy enough with it but I'm not sure you can really tell ... they are unlikely to shout at you if it's too little or say yipee if it's too much - it was no more scientific than they made it all really easy and pleasant and it felt a fair amount to us!0

I work for a removal company and the lads are always really pleased when they get a tip. Most people do seem to tip, although obviously they don't assume they're going to get one. A lot of people recently have given them bottles of wine or crates of beer to split which always goes down well to take home after a days heavy work.:)0

Call me miserly, but don't they get paid by their employers >?!0
-
I had already packed up all of our stuff before they came to move us, but we did buy them all breakfastIt's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

Never crossed my mind to tip, but did keep them fed and watered all day.0
