Oh no, stevey.......but are you sure it is unlikely to be? Not certain which part of NI you are based in, but looking at the tables, a number of the Grammar schools last year took quite a range of scores in (particulary the AQE, where some took right down to Quintile 5).....then again, maybe you feel that whatever results your son got, they could get into a Grammar but would struggle and might therefore be more suited to the higher stream of a Secondary school instead, which for some students can be the better option.

Either way, great to see that you are going out to celebrate regardless.....well done your son on attempting the exams and doing all the preparation work.

And remember, not getting the hoped for marks does not necessarily mean they are not capable, it might just mean that on those particular days and with those particular tests, things just didn't quite come together. Yes, it can be hard to accept that now, perhaps, but even students who are usually good at certain subjects can totally mess up in an exam, transfer or otherwise. It is not the end of the world and I hope and trust that your son and others in similar circumstances, go on to achieve well wherever they find themselves going. As long as a child gives of their best, when they can (and sometimes circumstances mean they can't), at whatever they are doing, they will achieve in some way that is right for them.

  • My youngest got a C1! She has decided to go to the Comprehensive 5 mins walk away and I'm delighted!!! Was taking the girls out for a nice meal but they want McD's and pictures!!
  • Totally agree with Butterflymum!! My other 2 girls go to non-grammer schools and are doing really well. The eldest will sit 9 GCSE's this year and is predicted to do well and all this for a child who was deemed a failure at age 11. It's hard work for them and fair play to those that sit the test, it's nerve-wrecking and that's just the parents!!!
  • Got our results -DD got an A/254 in GL. Hopefull will be enough to get her into first choice school. Congratulations everyone !

Our wee DS got 266/A in GL and 112 in AQE - sooo proud, still don't know where he'll end up though!! Well done everyone such a relief to have it all over!
Life's a box of beads - rainbow coloured and full of surprises!:D
  • Why do you want a grade when they obviously remove information? Any child can tell you that 120 is greater than 104 or 85 but the difference betwen 124 and 123 and 122 is small but significant.
  • What do the experts make of an A in GL test and a score of 84 in AQE? Are these tests really comparable? Would Victoria College have answer since they take both?
