Do the GL schools take A grades in order of actual mark? The 1 we want turned away bout 40 A grades last year as so oversubscribed. DS got high A grade will that mean he's more likely 2 get in? We don't really fulfil other criteria except only child one
Life's a box of beads - rainbow coloured and full of surprises!:D
  • stevey im so sorry your ds didnt get a flying pig delivery however i am sure that your ds will be very happy with whatever school is lucky enough to get him-i am gobsmacked that dd got the result that she did as i was expecting a much lower score as at the beginning of all this we had thought about not putting her in for the exam as she struggled so much with math,it really is a lucky dip i feel and again the grammar may not even take her score as we live the next town over and dont have anyother kids at the school! I will be delighted for her to go to the 2nd choice comp if she doesnt get taken by the grammar because i know she will do just as well-if not better as its less stress! hope you have had a nice day to celebrate because the most important thing is the fact that he tried his best and did it in the first place :)
Glad its all over for the moment anyway, perhaps a good nights sleep is in order tonight for us all :T
oh can i ask-how do you work out the aqe score in relation to the old 11+ A B C score?i know this makes no odds but makes more sense in my head :o
    it takes more energy

  • Please explain to the rest us exactly what makes sense in your head about suggesting that a comp is better than a grammar
You will have seen this answer by reading my previous posts...that is of course if you have actually managed to read this thread in full before posting your comments.
You will also note that this local group of parents who have been here for some time now supporting each other when faced with being let down by the education minister of Northern Ireland,is a kind and welcoming thread and we always talk to eachother with a certain level of niceness and respect........you may want to find another forum where you might feel you have something more relavent to add.

  • Happy little dancing bunny here too (116). She's actually going to be going to the local Integrated and only did the test because someone had a go at her about 6 months ago that she was only going to the Integrated because she 'wasn't fit to go to Grammar School'. We're going to look round the grammar at the open evening on Tuesday but there's a couple of subjects she really wants to do that they don't offer so it'll really have to knock her socks off for her to change her mind.

My boys are both at the Integrated, one started his A levels in 4th form, so certainly no lack of academic achievement and encouragement there! Schools are horses for courses, some kids do far better in single sex, some in a more academic atmosphere, some in a more artistic / musically rich school and others in a more vocational setting.

The transfer system gives us those choices. For my daughter the music and languages plus the ability to sit GCSEs early is more of a pull than the traditional grammar school but that is her choice. For a different child with the same abilities as dd but a different personality the grammar would be perfect. I know kids doing really well in both schools and I know kids that struggle in both. We're lucky that we have that choice and to be honest I'm still choosing!
  • Its funny how Mr Chambers has reappeared this year again!!!:mad:
If u look he only has 7 posts - the others were on the AQE thread for last year and if I remember rightly he had a huge wooden spoon then too - My advice - ignore him!!!

One of those things that lives under the bridge that the Billy Goats Gruff trot trot trotted over!!! ;)

Hi everyone, my daughter got 95. We had floods of tears this morning as she thought the test was easy and expected to get higher. But all calmed down and she is hoping to get into Hunter House. I know its a bit iffy whether she will or not, but fingers crossed!

    Just relieved its over!

    :rotfl:
  • Hunter House took to 91 last year so fingers crossed for you all :)

  • I shouldn't feed the troll, but never mind ... sigh. My kids don't go to an Integrated that uses selection. They do go to a school that encourages them to enter exams when they're ready, not just in 5th and U6th forms (or Y12/Y14 in new money - showing my age here) Most schools virulently discourage early entering, which was a huge problem for my eldest in his previous school for reasons that are beyond the scope or remit of this board.

TBH I have no interest in the difference between the two tests. The differences or otherwise are irrelevant to me. Possibly if I was a good engaged member of the community then I would investigate the differences and campaign for an equal testing field across all schools, or insist that INCAS or CAT are used instead, or heaven forbid, SATs. The problem with this is that I'm not an activist, I'm a mum working to support my daughter in her choices. She has done her test. Whether I agree with the style of test, or testing at all is irrelevant. She wanted to do the test, she has done it, she is choosing her post-primary school. The test has given her choices. Without the test and the availability of integrated education she would have the choice of precisely one high school because of our location. It's not a school we would even consider going to for a huge number of different reasons. Integrated education gives her another school as an option, selective grammar a third. Take away the selection and in rural areas you're taking away choice, unless of course you can afford the bus pass yourself for 7 years.

I am not ill-informed and tbh I don't think any of the other parents are coming over as ill-informed either. The information is very hard to find, as evidenced already in this thread. We have a new thread because it's a new year and last years thread is over 90 pages long. I've read some of it over the past few weeks but most people simply don't have the time to read 90+ pages. What harm is anyone doing by posting the same questions here this year? The only person from last year who is on this thread appears to be your good self Mr Chambers, so maybe you could start helping by sharing your obvious knowledge of last years issues with us, instead of flinging mud and responses to half-read posts.

Post or don't post, I don't really care one way or the other. I plan to do what I can to support my daughter, and if that leads me to being able to help other families as well, then so much the better. If that means they can help me then that's great too. It's a huge decision. Sometimes it's easier to pick the brains of people in other areas to get an outsiders view instead of asking local ppl who are too close to see the wood for the trees.

    Give and take and respect.
  • Anyone know of the mark boundaries for the GL grade?
