I have no idea about the amount of kids sitting the tests, if they are more or less than last year. Although from googling it, it seems its more or less 14000 last yr and this.

Also the scores in the quintiles for AQE are almost the same give or take a few marks.

Would be great if the marks were lower and less kids sat the tests. Who knows, what will be will be.

Just put your first choice schools down even if you think you've no chance, as you really never know the outcome!

I am having a glass or 2 or wine as I couldn't relax all weekend and am quite chilled tonight. :D

Pigs might fly, you just never know! It is a long wait, but don't dismiss anything
  • Hi we went too see the principle of our school today too write our sons choices of schools
He wants too go too BRA so we wrote that as his first choice (he got a score of 91) so we don't think he will get in his principle didn't even want us too put this school as his first choice we feel theres no hope but we still wanted a chance of applying for his first choice

We have decided too get both tests he done remarked and was speaking too the lady at the AQE office today she made me feel better and said make sure BRA is his first choice!

Sorry for rambling but we have never went through this before as our son is our oldest and we have found the whole process frightening actually!

Hi Mumoftwo, My daughter is an only child and the whole process is daunting. 91 IS a good score and you never know if you'll get in or not. Your principal should not discourage that, as, if they don't get in theres no harm done, it will go to the 2nd choice. If you don't ask, you don't get. I'm applying special circumstance with my daughter as she wasn't herself throughout the tests. I've never been a pushy parent, but feel my daughter needs the push a grammar school gives.

    Fingers crossed for us!

Hi Mumoftwo, 31 kids were admitted last year to RBA in quintile 4 which includes your sons score, so dont give up hope.

    Night night
  • My son got a low score 87 so no hope of
of a grammar school place b2- but one point of
B1 in GL, put the intergrated school
down first on the form as they said they
needed to be first on list to try for a place
there or no chance (very nice !! )then put a lot of grammar schools
    hoping for a miracle !
Someone posted later on about children
With scores in low 80s getting a grammar
School place ,was this special circumstances
please tell? Just hoping for the best outcome
    Now.

Look, today I heard all about how well my friends niece was getting on at uni. She did not get a good mark in the 11+, her parents were both teachers in a grammar school and could have got her in but decided she should attend the secondary. She went through it achieving results that put many of the grammar kids to shame.
She said to my friend that without the bad mark in the 11 + she did not think she would have ever given herself the shake up in attitude she needed....she enjoyed doing well ever after and is grateful to her parents for not "bailing" her out.Any school is what you make of it,don't lose heart. Your son can still be whatever he wants in life, you just have to make him understand he just has to work for it. He will be fine.
  • What parent would listen to a primary school principal and take their advice on listing preferences for a grammar school? Their unions are totally against academic selection, they have said and done nothing in public to disavow anyone from that view and if parents actually read the transfer form it becomes clear that it is they, NOT THE PRINCIPAL, who should complete the form.

Of course you could take the advice of the real trolls on this forum and leave all the power in the hands of a group of conflicted individuals determined to rob parents of control of their child's educational future. Any parent seeking a grammar school place for their child should list every grammar school in the province and leave the problem of placement to those schools.

I think I will be able to settle myself a bit more once I've veen into school tomorrow and signed the school transfer choice form. Then. I'll try to forget about it till May when the anxiety will return. We have another 24 hours to make our final decision on the order of choice. Yesterday my son came home and announced he wants INST on his list. He's never mentioned it before and we didn't go to the open night. Aarrgghhh!!!!!!!
  • Hi everyone anxious time for all - my child scored 91 lower than I expected does not reflect her ability or consistent scoring in practice papers but unfortunately that's just how the cookie crumbles! I have interview with principle this afternoon and will be listing several grammar school nothing ventured and all that not feeling optimistic but I'l be wise with my choices based on last years admissions.
  • Hi Ex Spendaholic

Glad to see you are back on the forum this year. I have been reading this myself since Sat, takes me back to this time last year. I know exactly how they all feel. Same concerns as ourselves regarding scores and what we expected our children to get. Hope your son has settled well into his school. Mine loves BRA.
